Hi All

I currently have 2 3g data cards on contract, is it possible to upgrade to a new usb modem ?

These contracts are both older than 2 years.

If this is possible what modem would you guys suggest i get, E220, E272 etc.

I have no idea which one would be the best bet, i am not to keen on a usb stick type of modem but any suggestions are welcome.

TIA

The B970 looks like a good product but not really what i'm looking for, preferably one of the usb versions, just not sure which one.

Yes, a datacard is like a cellphone contract. If you decide to continue your data contract then every 22 months you can upgrade to a newer datacard.

You'll battle to find a normal USB modem like a E272, I think they have been discontinued.

Your best bet would be the Vodafone K3715 (Huawei E180), as it supports both 7.2mbps download speeds (when they are released) and the faster 1.4mbps upload speeds, which are free now.

Any reason you not keen on the USB sticks?

What other options of datacards do you have to upgrade to?

I don't know i just prefer the usb modems with the cable, i guess its all the same anyway.

I don't want another datacard. I have these 2 that i am using atm but seeing as i can upgrade i thought why not.

Just want to know which one would be best. And i also suppose its perfectly do able to connect the E180 to a usb cable instead of it sticking out the back or front or the side of a desktop or laptop ?

You answered your own question, you can just purchase a USB extension cable and attach one end to your PC and the other to the modem and put it anywhere you feel you get good signal, like on the curtain railing or something. :o)

B970 can be connected in USB mode as well (similar cable to the E220/E272), but it is a bit bulky.

Ok so the E180 should be the way to go then ?
