Hi there

I would like to know if I should upgrade or not. My current specs

Intel q9450 @ 3.3GHz with zalman cnps9700
MSI p45-platinum
4GB DDR@ 1066MHz RAM
Lots of HDD and SSD as os drive
GTX280 1GB OC edition
Cooler master Storm Sniper
650TX Corsair PSU

I was thinking of going for the following

MSI P67A-GD65
4GB DDR3 1800mhz RAM
Keeping my GTX280
i7-2600k or i5-2500k

If my temps allow me I will be planning on overclocking my pc. Is there also mounting brackets I can buy for my CNPS9700 to fit on the sandy bridge?

While the i7 is like 900 more than the i5 do you guys think it's worth the extra money? So should I upgrade or not. Will my performance be really that much better. I'm playing black ops, Crysis2(soon), Shift2, Dirt3, etc.

Also can I sell my old motherboard, cpu and RAM and what will I get for that.

Dude I don't think you need to upgrade yet. Maybe once Bulldozer is out :p

Doubt it. Not worth upgrading for gaming.

ok so you guys think the cpu will be fine for nvidia 600 series cards if that ever comes out

In my honest opinion: there is no need for an upgrade as of yet. The mentioned specs that you currently have is great. The improvements in terms of gaming won't be amazing, but it will be there, but I don't think it's worth the money spent now.

The recommendation I normally give is wait a small while, but keep on saving and the day that you realize that it's laggish or that you see you can't do what you want to, take the money, go out and buy your upgrades.

Or if you're worried about it supporting the 6-series, wait until it comes out. Your rig should be able to handle everything at the moment.

I would maybe upgrade the GTX280, but that is it. Since the Nvidia 5x0 cards only came out recently, I think you will still have to wait a while for the 6x0 cards. Maybe get a 560 GTX TI or AMD 6950...

Edit: If you want to sell your stuff, check out www.carbonite.co.za

I'd also hold off on the upgrade, even if it is just to see how crysis kills your pc, then if it does upgrade.
I'd also upgrade GPU first...

Ivy bridge and bulldozer are around the corner so I'd definitely wait as you not in dire need of an upgrade...

BTW If the cooler has 1156 brackets it'll fit on 1155....

That's one way of looking at it.. According to Nvidia though Crysis2 will actually run better than Crysis1 on a PC with the same specs. (I assume until the DX11 patch comes out)
