I am overdue for an upgrade and was hoping owners of the two devices can give me some feedback.

I know spec wise all the technical yadda yadda, looking for realworld feedback please :D

Whatever phone you chose, what do you not like about it and would you choose the same phone if given the chance ?

Thanks :)

i have the GT-i9500 but in some ways i wish i got the GT-i9505 due to the fact that AOSP roms are going to be much easier to make for that model phone now that the "vanilla" Galaxy S4 is going to be sold by Google.

iOS sucks and its not even close.

Really depends on what you want out of your phone.

If you want a compact, simple communication tool with a slick, snappy & consistent user experience then the iPhone5 is good choice, however customization flexibility will be limited.

If you're more technically inclined and expect your phone to be more akin to micro PC with a larger form factor/screen and much more scope for customization flexibility, then the S4 would be a better choice.

Both are good if matched to appropriate user preferences & expectations.

The iPhone has the advantage of lots of available accessories, AV and in-car integration.

Coming from a Blackberry, I got a iPhone 5. Honestly, I dont know what all this iPhone/iPad hype is about. The iPhone was really frustrating to me - too limited ito settings and customization. I think it is more suited for older and "technically challenged" people.

I sold it after 4 weeks (at a loss), and bought a Galaxy S4. Now this is a real phone. Just makes everything easier: bigger screen is definitely a plus, you can set it up just the why you like, google integration is better, etc.

To give an example: 3g in our town is horribly overloaded, to a point where it sometime is impossible to make calls or use internet(even though 3G shows a strong signal). 2G/EDGE is much better in this instance. The iPhone does not allow you to force 2G?? The S4 (as most other phones) does allow this.

Spent almost the whole morning yesterday, reading and talking to sales staff. My contract would go up with +- R150 if I want what I currently have. Contracts have changed yet again and you get less for more money.

No HTC one stock yet, and rumors of a new one coming soon:

Rumors about Iphone 6 or 5s, name still to be decided.

The S4 is nice I cant deny that, but the plastic feel puts me off.

Then maybe have a look at the Xperia Z.

Not sure what planet you are on but of course you can force 2g on the iPhone. You need to disable the 3G/LTE function and then it only uses 2g...

It's under settings, general, cellular.

You clearly didn't spend enough time with the phone to look through all the settings.

Is this firmware version dependent cause on 6.1.2 you have the option to disable LTE only. Cellular data on will run on whatever is available IE 2G/3G...

Who stocks the 9505, all the service providers seem to stock the 9500?
No one, they aren't launched/available locally yet. Also no sight of when they will be arriving, maybe 1-3 months at a guess. You'd have to import if you wanted one now, but be prepared to pay a premium.

Even if you are running iOS 6.1.2 once you disable LTE it automatically disables 3G as well. At least it should. If it doesn't then it's a bug. But if I disable LTE it drops the 3G connection and goes to Edge.

Mmmm, I suspect that's more due to lack of 3G coverage than anything else...

No it does not.
Disabling LTE does just that and only that. You can still get 3G.

Hi, I'm from planet Earth - the real world

Don't imply fact when making assumptions. You'll get into trouble one day (maybe not in Cyber World, but on Planet Earth)....
