Upgrade time. Suggestions?

Yeah that motherboard does seem a tad on the expensive side :(

I am still thinking of going with the aforementioned Gigabyte motherboard. What I need to know is whether it is worth my while getting a motherboard with a 1333mhz FSB if my CPU only supports 1066Mhz (E6300). Either that, or I am going completely in the wrong direction, hardware is not really my forte...

Well do you plan on buying a CPU in the next year or so that uses 1333FSB? If not ... don't waste your money on it ... because the mother board will automatically downclock itself to support the 1066FSB processor ... and if you aren't planning on buying a processor in the next year that uses 1333FSB ... you will be better off buying a 1333FSB board when you decide to buy a 1333FSB processor.

And overclocking my current processor will have no effect on its FSB speed? ie. if I overclock my e6300 it won't clock up to 1333mhz?

not 100%sure about that ... not personally into overclocking. i think when you overclock, you increase the bus speeds on the board, and a 1066 board is still capable of that. There are people who have overclocked with just a 1066 board. IMO its a waste of money.

Yeah I have been looking for a cheaper board but none that support DDR2-800 Dual Channel RAM are a significant drop in price to make it worth it. Also I might just want to upgrade my processor some time so I think I am gonna go with the Gigabyte GA-P35-S3 motherboard. Anyone have any idea how well that board will overclock?

Doing my own research I'm leaning towards the P35-DQ6. (around dbl the price of the S3 though) - There's still the GA-P35-DS3P to try.

Okay I have just ordered my board and RAM

I decided to go with the GA-P35-DS3P (more pricey, but actually in stock), and 1 gig (for now) ddr2-800 ram.

Anyone had any experience with this board? Am I in for a nice surprise or have I just screwed myself over?

IMO it is a decent mobo. Great overclocking ability from what I have read. Enjoy!
