Sup bros, so my gaming PC is getting a bit long in the tooth graphics wise and I guess an upgrade is due. Currently I have a GTX 570 (rest of the system specs are in my sig) and it's now a bit too slow to play everything on high. I currently have a 1080p monitor and probably won't upgrade to 4k any time soon.

I want to play games at 1080p on Very High/Ultra settings at least till mid 2017, what would my best bet be for a new GPU? I'm an AMD fan boi at heart but after the GTX570 its hard to say no to the green :D team. A cheaper GPU would also allow me to get an SSD and maybe a further 8gb of RAM for my gaming rig. The other thing is the effect that the weak rand has on the price of components, if I buy now would I be getting less for my money than i would in the future?

Personally I think the price/performance sweet spot right now for the card i'm looking for lies somewhere in between the GTX970 and GTX960. Thing is, I don't think such a card exists.

I think you should rather be looking at a full system upgrade somewhere in the future.

e.g. CPU is 4 year old tech so asking it to last till mid 2017 is ambitious especially against "Very High/Ultra settings" criteria.

You can temporarily patch this with a new GFX certainly...but start saving bro.

SSD - always worthwhile...but personally I'm expecting a big jump in the tech that side so I'm delaying my next SSD purchase.

I would recommend upgrade to gtx 970 . 960 is a bit weak for ultra settings ,have tested the 960 personally.

I tend to keep my 3770k rig with 12gb ram at least for another 2 years :p (1 ram slot is broken )

After that get 16gb ram and a SSD.

And if you look here you will see that the 380 is between the 970 and 960:

There is no such card, the R9 280X & R9 380 are a bit stronger than the gtx 960 but not like halfway between the 960-970 strong. Also will not do max/ultra on all games.

I think the 2500k should be good till at least mid-2017, especially overclocked. Check the link below.

6k is a bit much for me to justify spending on a gpu at the moment, so i think the 970 can maybe be eliminated from the equation. The R9 290 is going for 4k on Wootware, that is only R600 more than the R9 380, I think maybe that'll be a better bet.

It's a good buy if your PSU allows for it. Your CPU OC'ed will still be ok I reckon.
