Hi all
I've been getting about 8 - 10 KB/s international speeds for the past week or so from tower 66 4ways on a 128 package. Even though it is still not what I'm paying for it is still better than the 2-4KB/s that it was before. I only use it in the mornings from 9 to about 13h00. Problem is that it is not enough to do my job (mainly ftp to USA sites). I was thinking of "upgrading" (gasp) to a 256 package.

I have been seeing, from Donn's reports that 256 even sucks more than 128 on international. Should I do this? Some feedback/suggestions/advice/(money) would be appreciated.

I don't think you should. As you yourself said, donn's reports show that it's not worth it. Don't take the risk with sentech. Eventhough it may sometime look like they are getting their act together, it doesn't mean **** cause they always screw it up! If the 128 doesn't work for you, cancel and go adsl. Its Faster and as soos as something better comes along, have a go at that and just cancel the adsl.

Personal opinion. Thats why I cancelled sentech. It's to much of a risk and their service does suck more often than not!

In all honesty i am thinking about downgrading to 128K. I have a 256k Package and its horrible. So my suggestion to you is "forget upgrading" for now that is. Hopefully they'll get their act together. They sort of still have a chance considering what I-Burst have offered with their "I-Go Everywhere" Product. Not very exciting at all. It actually adds to peoples frustrations. Sentech have a chance to save some grace. But i'll bet anyone that they aint gonna fix jack sh*t ever.

Tower 90, 256K Package

i don't know what it is with sentech and ftp, but its a virtually non-existant protocol,
when did you last try ftp to a local ftp site, my ftp's to hetzner hover around 2kB.
I don't think a package will affect this, and i don't know how its possible they f'd it up so badly, but once again, sentech have done the impossible!!

How about contacting them and asking Sentech what kind of speeds you can expect, and then ask for a month's trial? That will completely bollocks up their admin, I'm sure. They may even leave you on the 256k package by mistake. But don't feed the beast any more money for MW!

If you need dedicated international bandwidth for your job then maybe you could buy some from a real ISP like Internet Solutions and then get a valid user name and password to connect via their proxy. I don't know what it costs but its worth finding out. Similarly MWeb or DataPro may be able to help, but you're going to need to speak to a competent techie, not their sales/support people. You'd better go there in person.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out. And BTW, the graphs on my web page come from a member of this forum using the 256k package, so don't hold your breath. Maybe the 512k package will give better results.

NOT worth upgrading. I am on 128k and had a long talk with Nowire's people. Don't bother. Not worth it at all. And this is from them!!

`ftp://******:******@games.saix.net/games/demos/NFSU2_Demo.exe' at 200665760 20.4K/s [Receiving data]

Not my full 32KB/s, but I can live with 20KB/s on a single thread for now...however, intl is a completely different ball game (read: slow as hell)

256k ... BAH..more like 25.6k
FSCK YOU Sentech!! [:(!]

sorry, maybe I wasn't specific enough in my statement, I meant UPLOADS are non existant, cd's problem , also speciied uploads.

Back to mywi
possibly its not just mywireless, and hetzner has no available incoming bandwidth!
but I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT.
from my previous experience, whenever a problem occurs, look first at mywi.

out of interests sake I uploaded a 400K file to my co.za server. It went up averaging 26KB and that is on a 129Kbs

You know what I think... I think you have a dodgy server is what I think cuz local flies on Sentech. International uploads

I uploaded a 300K file to a server in Rotterdamn. It averaged at 12.36KB/s. So yeah... uploads are fine on my side.

Downlink Tests on FTP
International Rotterdman Server
Lets call it 2K average... I wasn't bothered dll the whole thing cuz I dont have all night My actual network usage does not even exceed 15% The bursts that were there a few days ago are no longer around.

Local Server
Okay a 5Mb file... coming down at about 13Kb/s I have had it faster before but not bad... I can live with that.

Me thinks you have a dodgy something or other or maybe at that time Sentech were doing something dodgy.

myWireless 128, 64, 48, 16 - depends on its mood.

Whatever you do, don't waste money upgrading to 256k. I am one of those suckers who recently upgraded from 128k to 256k and my international speed actually went down. You're getting 10KBps on 128k - I seldom get anywhere near that on the 256k package - in fact it's more like < 7kBps most of the time. I have logs of international speed before and after I upgraded and it is markedly slower after the upgrade, so I also have proof of this absurd situation where a more expensive package performs worse. Sentech, apparently, couldn't care less about this disgusting state of affairs. I'm cancelling as soon as I have an alternative arrangement.

Nonroker, I wish that bloody file was on saix last night when I was looking for it. didn't check again this morning, started Getright with 8 intl threads, 10 hrs later on 118MB LOL. saw your post, switch 4 of the threads to saix...12K/s looks soooo much better, might even have it by morning

OK guys, thanks a lot, I think I get the general idea. Maybe if I could downgrade to a 64k package I could get better international speeds. Anyway, I spoke too soon, today my average over about 4 hours was only about 5kB/s. Solidly in dialup territory. So much for broadband. Broadband se moer.
