Upgrade to 384 from 192 - automatic or manual?

nice !! thats means peoples caps will be finished faster with the new 384 free updrade :P
 
Which would be preferred? 1) faster line speed but stand the chance of using ur cap faster(cap management needed lol), or 2) slower line speed and cap lasts longer as a result..?
I think its a no brainer, if you cant watch what u use thats just tuff luck...

Ja for any normal person the 3gb is more than enough, but any normal person can appreciate the 384k over the 192k much more than having 5gb instead of 3gb.

WTF is a normal person? Since Telkom decided somewhere along the line that 3gigs usage is more than normal, does that mean that you accept whatever standard for normalcy that Telkom sets?

Or do you think that because you cant think of anything better to do with your highspeed connection and because you consider yourself normal, that anyone who uses more than 3 gigs must be abnormal?

i use much more than 3gb. a normal person is a "non-IT" person that uses his adsl for banking and browsing the latest fashion pages or chatting or whatever it is people use internet for and that is just happy to be able to get the computer to work for 5 minutes without them pushing the wrong button. for them trying to explain the difference between 1024k adsl and 192k adsl is a mighty task, for them trying to explain the concept of "bandwidth" is a mighty task, trying to explain to them what a cap is, is impossible. for them 3gb is more than enough.

The majority of users, especially with Telkom Internet, are users that only use the internet for email and browsing and everything else that might require a tiny bit of bandwidth. Maybe normal was the wrong word to use there, majority rather. and technically u cant refer to anyone using more than 10 gigs a month as normal because he/shes probably downloading illegal software/games/movies etc. I do not direct that comment to people who do not use their b/w for illegal purposes and might use more than 10.

lol ja other than businesses i dont see how anybody can use 10gb or more for "legal stuff"
 
I only use under 3GB due to the cap, if i was free of usage restrictions my usage would be alot more.
 
With regard to my dsl installation: On aaplication I ticked 384, Telkom advised that my line supports up to 1024. On day of installation tech strugled to to sync @192. I advised that its not good enough and i insist a better alternative. Next day after making stink techie came by with little tester and showed up lot of errors on my side of the line. He jumped in his bakkie, whisked of to exchange and was back in no time advising problem is sorted. He did another test on my side and advised that my line is now officially 1024 compliant. My distance from exchange is about 4km. Had a chat with techie and he said there are a few options they can follow at exchange which is not very time consuming and normally should work to improve your line quality.

@ the end of day i suppose it all depends on who attends to your complaint and whether its monday or friday... :-)

That is a really easy answer.
Some things I do.

Pandora Internet Radio ~ 70MB per hour
Online Gaming (WOW + CSS) between 6MB to 20MB (not sure about CSS)
Juice - Podcast Downloader - WoW Radio downloads are about 40MB per day
I am always streaming AlgoaFM - about 10MB per hour
Browsing - differs alot
e-mail - well that doesnt really count, really small.
Streaming Video (I stream Click Online for example weekly, some other stuff aswell froom You Tube)
Steam Games - Updates and new games that are released, downlaoded HL2 Episode 1 and Half Life Source like that.
Windows Vista Beta 1 - Torrents

, there are more, but all this will take you higher than 3GB way way higher and all legal - 10GB does look reasonable, but still a little low.

and this is only what I have used it for.
 
OK, I'm upgraded without having to do a thing. Just noticed my downloads are much faster. Was getting 20.9 KB/s on 192 until yesterday, it looks like it max out at 41.2 KB/s now. The modem also indicates that it synchs at 384 kbps.

Nice one! They obviously starting to upgrade a bit early, consider yourself one of the lucky ones im sure..
