I can't afford Fibre now and pretty sure my area doesn't have the infrastructure.

Im paying 791 for 4meg line with Telkom. How much more to upgrade to 10mb and you guys think it's a good idea to upgrade? I can't seem to find anything cheaper that offers adsl line + voice line and free 7-7 calls for this price .

Yep! It would be cheaper but I pay R206 for the voice line because of the free 7-7 calls.

Lordy that's expensive, I pay R662 for a 20meg line and 200GB thru Afrihost. That's excluding the voice line and package though but R591 for your 4meg is expensive.

Yeah but yours isn't uncapped and doesn't have that kind of package.... But yes that is expensive for 4meg lol :/

But how much data do you pull? I'm paying R70 more for 5x the speed with a decent data cap, it's basically uncapped for me, if you check your usage you may find that a capped account that covers you will be cheaper.

To be honest I'm not sure, probably a lot because I'm at home most of the time and try to stream alot... I've been trying to stream sports but it just buffers now and then :/

Check your usage on the Telkom portal or phone 10210. Get a capped product with 50 - 100 gigs more then you normally use ( I recommend them because they are unshaped). They also come with uncapped from 12pm-6am (big downloads can be scheduled for these hours and I generally pull 300gigs a month on this).

The really good uncapped products cost R1000 plus (Business premium uncapped) on a 10 mb/s line but will offer you a unshaped product.

I would go with Afrihost, Axxess, Crystal Web or Vox

Analog line = R189
line Rental 10mb/s from Axxess = R395 https://www.axxess.co.za/adslline or R399 from Afrihost https://www.afrihost.com/site/product/adsl_lines?src=website_nav
Data from Axxess 200gigs = R379 (you can get it cheaper from Afrihost with their double up data for R99 and R199 for 100gigs to give you 200 gigs)
Total = Axxess R963 or Afrihost R886

I think these are the two cheapest ways to get your i-net but without knowing your usage cant give an exact price.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/808310-DSTV-SuperSport-Stream check out this thread on streaming sport a lot of those sport apps are pretty broken and it may not be your line.

That^^^

But if you do both line and data with AH and bundle it you get a hefty discount on the line rental, I get R60 off. My costs are:

Analog line = R189
Data line(20meg) = R425 - R60 bundle discount = R365
Data 100gigs = R199
Afrihost Plus+(doubles my data to 200gig and other stuff) = R99

Total = R852

For unshaped internet at a reasonable cap I don't thinnk you can do better.

Add in your voice package from Telkom and you're sorted.

I think I would go crazy with streaming if I should get a higher speed and also flawless streaming thus I'd probably reach my cap alot faster.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the input :)

Hopefully there are some good deals in the future 8)

To be honest my 4meg doesn't bother me when it comes to movies or series because I can load it up and then watch it at 720p.

The only thing is I can't seem to stream Live Sports without constant buffering :/

As a matter of interest RVR what sports do you watch and what links are you using , I am seriously considering getting rid of DSTV and using that money on a decent internet connection

I'm into cricket more than other sports , I do occasionally watch tennis and premier league.

I use Kodi, I can get sky'sports at HD (720) sadly it buffers because of my speed. The other I use is Sportsdevil although it doesn't buffer much, the picture quality is bad.

I've tried Kodi with a 20mbps line to stream sport. Forget it,it doesn't work at all. Most of those streams are flooded by everybody, so its not going to matter what you do.

I live 800m away from the exchange, but Kodi and streaming just never worked well. It's free, hundreds of thousands of people click on that exact link you click on, so it's going to be a crap experience.
Best bet is to find a relative who has a premium dstv account, or better your brother, sister, mother or father etc and use the supersport app.

Well that's a shame, and I wanted to upgrade to 10mb speed thinking I can stream sports without a hitch :(
