Unshaped accounts

Is there an alternative to a Telkom unshaped a/c? Is there anyone who can sell me a 1 gig unshaped a/c? Is this whole Nov 1st thing in action at this stage? Can one get a 1G adsl account? You can PM me with any sales hype if you have, but any advice will do. Sorry if I seem ignorant, but I have been out of country for the past three weeks...

Hi Fragtion, please explain how you would be able to test for shaping using the machine or gateway IP?

I'm on the RBA exchange, and when I'm UNCAPPED on SHAPED my IP is 165.146.64.2-165.146.255.255 (GATEWAY: 165.165.64.1). When I'm CAPPED on SHAPED my IP becomes 165.165.32.2-165.165.63.255 (GATEWAY: 165.165.32.1). When I'm on UNSHAPED, my IP is between 165.165.0.2-165.165.31.255 (GATEWAY: 165.165.0.1).
Of course these are Rosebank specific, but other exchanges should follow similar patterns -- IE your shaped IP should be on a completely different range to your unshaped.

Another way to test whether you're on unshaped or not is to do a traceroute to an international ip, such as clarity.jolt.co.uk or london.co.uk, and if your first international hop is around 275ms, you're definately on unshaped, as SHAPED SAIX accounts' equivalent lies between 340-400ms... also observe the loss in a ping to such an IP. UNSHAPED accounts should have far less, if any packet loss.
