Asus is no better than any other brand, some Asus motherboards have vrm issues. Then there's the support structures, Asus used to be via partserve which you want to avoid, dunno if it's still the case.

It may just be me, then but I've had the lowest level of failures with ASUS products since the early 2000s.

It’s weird the “bias” we have.

just bought an Asrock B550, that had a fault. Now I have an aversion to Asrock.
my previous MB was a Gigabyte, so I rather paid in for a Gigabyte X570, which works perfectly. Now I have further affinity to gigabyte.

Last year I had an MSi board, Asrock and a gigabyte all were pretty good. The MSi went years and years.

Agreed. All boards from any reputable manufacturer are pretty much the the same these days. What separates them these more is cost.
Lower-end boards will use weaker VRM's and skimp on other components, whereas the more expensive variants will use higher quality components.
