Hi, I want to upgrade and was thinking to get the following:

1. Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard
2. Intel i5-2500 or Intel i5-2500k CPU
3. 4GB DDR3 2000 RAM
4. GeForce GTX 570

I am going to use it mainly for gaming and occasional VHS to DVD converting.

Please give me some advice.

I also am looking at getting a similar rig. What chassis and psu do you have? Where are you buying it from?

I have an Aerocool Masstige-A Gaming Chassis and a 700W A-Open PSU, so no need ATM for new ones.

I am looking at the 2500k chip. Currently Rebeltech looks the cheapest.

How good is Rebeltech? It is the first time I hear of them, but the second post they are mentioned in.

I would buy all components from rebeltech/wootware/prophecy/landmark (take your pick)
then get the 570 from evetech. or look at the 6970 currently on special at rebeltech...

Rather go for DDR3 1866MHz or 1600MHz RAM @ 1.5V and low latencies, because you won't be able to run the RAM @ 2000MHz with the Sandy Bridge setup.

I'd recommend the Asus HD6970 DirectCU II @ RebelTech, which is currently on a special for ~R3100 (~R3230 with shipping & VAT included).

Adata, Apacer, Corsair, G.Skill, Kingston and Mushkin sell good RAM, but only a few of them sell 1.5V RAM modules.

I am looking at Mushkin 1600MHz DDR3 4GB Radioactive Yellow Fros 2x2GB Kit - CL 6-8-6-24, 1.65 Volts.

Or should I rather go for the Mushkin 1333MHz DDR3 8GB Silverline Low-Voltage Dual Channel 2x4GB Kit - CL 9-9-9-24, 1.5 Volts

Are you looking at overclocking? Cause if not then any ram over 1333Mhz is pointless as Sandy Bridge's memory controller only goes up to 1333Mhz.

And to add about Rebeltech, I bought all my parts from them, very reliable. Was just a bit odd fetching the stuff cause its his house not like a business office or store.

Not into OC, to scared I burn something. Is there another board I should look at?

If you're not going to overclock you can probably save money by just not getting things like the P8P67 Pro or even the P67 series as they are more for overclocking. Also the i5 2500 vs i5 2500k where the k series just has an unlocked multiplier for overclocking.

The P8P67 Pro has the amount USB 3 and SATA ports I want. The price diff between the 2500 & 2500K is less than R100.

This is way I need to get as much info so that I can make a good decision.

Trust me when that game comes out that your PC can't handle you will be happy you got a board/ram and CPU that you can overclock... it's like a free upgrade in a year or two's time. And there is such a wealth of information on how to do it if you are well informed you shouldn't have any failures.

Most important thing is to check for temperatures. Also check the max voltage for certain setup and you will be fine. These days there is hardly no way to screw up a cpu/mobo/ram. anybody telling me overclocking breaks your pc doesn't know what they talking about. If you know the limits then you are fine.

I have been running my q9450 from 2.66 to 3.2GHZ for about 3 years now and still running sweet. tried to push it further but unstable as hell.

I see :) I was thinking back when I bought mine, the price difference was definitely more than a few hundred so I vote get the 2500K then if its less than R100. What about the normal P8P67 vs the P8P67 Pro? From what I can see the Pro just gives you an extra 2 USB3 ports and supports SLI or am I missing something? I think I could maybe understand from a future proofing point of view to have more USB3 slots but I mean for me all I've got atm is an external HDD that's using 1 USB 3 slot >.<

@S1ght: ATM I have two usb 3.0 ext enclosures, and want to add more in future.

I know this is a noob Q, but how good is wootware? Did anyone had a problem with them? I did not know about them until Pada provided the links to the RAM.
