Upgrading advice

Hi, I want to upgrade and was thinking to get the following:

1. Asus P8P67 Pro Motherboard
2. Intel i5-2500 or Intel i5-2500k CPU
3. 4GB DDR3 2000 RAM
4. GeForce GTX 570

I am going to use it mainly for gaming and occasional VHS to DVD converting.

Please give me some advice.

Only recommendation I can give you is to get a processor with Hyper-threading, for example the i7-2600, it will help with video conversion speeds.

@S1ght: ATM I have two usb 3.0 ext enclosures, and want to add more in future.

I know this is a noob Q, but how good is wootware? Did anyone had a problem with them? I did not know about them until Pada provided the links to the RAM.

They are one of the best online stores I have ever used. I used them to buy my friend a new upgrade last week, they sorted me out in no time and for a very good price.

Get the ram that Pada suggested: http://www.wootware.co.za/g-skill-f3-12800cl9d-8gbxl-2x4gb-ddr3-1600-ripjaws-x-desktop-memory.html

If you are not going to overclock then don't get a k series CPU, it's honestly useless if you don't overclock.

I might consider OCing at a later stage but ATM I just want to get the best equipment and service at the best price.

I am trying to decide between the following 2 cards:

EVGA GeForce GTX 570 Superclocked: R3840-00 to R3947-00 VAT incl 10yr warranty or the

Gainward GeForce GTX 570 Phantom Overclocked: R3600-00 VAT incl 2yr warranty

R3800 for that card is quite expensive to be honest.
You can get like an HD 6970 (with a 3yr warranty) for ~R3200, which would perform roughly the same as the GTX 570.

I'm not sure if the 10yr warranty of EVGA is applicable to SA?

As far as I know you must register the card with EVGA to get the 10yr warranty within 10 days...

Agree on that, but with only Nvidia given as an option I assumed the OP only wants an Nvidia card.

There is a local distributor for EVGA cards, thus the same warranty applies. The 10 Year warranty is what they call a limited lifetime warranty, and must be registered on EVGA's website with the invoice uploaded within 30 days of purchase to be applicable.

Which of one are the better of the two EVGA GeForce GTX 570 Superclocked or Gainward GeForce GTX 570 Phantom Overclocked?

Thanks for this info.

Based purely on head to head statistics the EVGA Card seems to be the better one.

The Gainward has a memory clock of 750 MHz and the EVGA card as a memory clock of 797 MHz, so it's stock overclocked quite a bit more than the Gainward card. (Taken from the manufacturer's sites: Gainward's EVGA's

Just got the EVGA 570 SC.. Very nice card and damn quiet when idle.. same as my 5850... Just bumped it up to 860 core without extra voltage no problems gunna push it a bit this weekend...

OK, so I have decided to get the i5 2500K CPU.

The only problem is the ASUS P8P67 Pro board or the ASUS P8Z68-V (wanting the Pro). The Z68 is newer with 64mb Flash ROM.

There are small differences between the two. Except for the Audio Features, Flash ROM, 2 SATA ports, I’ll take the P67 Pro because it has 1 x ASUS USB 3.0 Bracket.

Please give a guy some advice.

I doubt you'll notice any difference between the two in actual use unless you going to need all the sata ports?
