Upgrading contract from TopUp135 to Weekender

When my Vodacom TopUp135 contract is due for upgrade in April , I was thinking of upgrading the contract itself to Weekender in order to get a decent phone or something else cool to make the R3000 odd that it will cost over the 24 months worthwhile.

As it is I have an SMS bundle with my topup135 which is what I mostly use the phone for. I don't make a lot of peak calls so I am thinking that Weekender might be the better way to go.

Has anyone done this before?
IS it possible to upgrade from TopUp to Weekender when the contract is due for upgrade or do you have to wait until the contract actually runs out?

Are there any costs associated with doing this?

Haven't done it before but upgrading to a higher package is never a problem, its only downgrading that they have issues with so you should be able to do it at upgrade time with no additional costs.

Cool. That is what i was thinking would be the case. Seems to make sense to me that way. Just a shame they don't offer anything decent with topup contracts any more.
