Hey all,

Just need some advice but is there any real advantage in upgrading from a Gold cheque account to a Platinum at FNB? I've been looking at the Benefits on the website and I know the things like earning more ebucks and SLOW lounge are all reliant on meeting certain criteria which means I might not even get to use those "Benefits". But I mean does having Platinum status provide any other benefit such as a lower bond interest rate or something useful like that?

Thanks in advance,
S1ght :)

2.5% ebucks earn is really nice if you are on level 5 , and free uncapped adsl.

Wish i could upgrade , but i don't earn that kind of cash.

Premier Banking - ie. never go to a branch again. (At least I think that is when I got it)

Just go and upgrade.

I know there are requirements, but as far as I know FNB have upgraded anyone to platinum who wants to be upgraded - whether you earn less or more than the requirement on their site, whether you are blacklisted or not. Just go do it.

And, also, there is not much difference in advantages as far as I know. The premier banking is also quite ****ed up according to me.

There is nothing fancy about this account or having this card. I agree, something you can probably just stick to your CV to show employers if you don't want show your card off in front of them.

I really don't get the "put it on your CV" comments in this thread unless you mean to say it is a way of "showing off". Nobody cares except you yourself...maybe.

If you can't see anything beneficial in having the platinum account, stick to Gold and save R30 pa or whatever it is they'll charge you extra.

If you don't travel a lot, use eBucks all that often or go to the bank a lot then maybe there is no benefit for you.

Thanks for the replies guys :) I don't care much about "sticking it on my cv". It's the real world benefits I'm looking for and as it is, I'm struggling to find anything tangible to warrant upgrading :/ Even the private banker thing...I haven't had to go into a branch as it is and it seems like 1 of those nice to haves for that 1 time I might need to in a year?

I upgraded from Gold to Platinum, but I knew going in that the annual charge would be higher. That said, the 1 time I made use of the premier support call center, they helped me super fast, better than the usual channels at least.

The other things you get is:
- ebucks earn is limited to R10 000 spend on gold, on platinum its R20 000 spend (per month)
- 1-4Mbps uncapped internet can go up to 100% free vs only 80% discount on gold
- slightly higher ebucks earn rates

Hardly worth getting the Platinum except for the Slow lounge acess. If you fly from time to time its defnitely worth it.
I got my platinum last year and only flew once since then. But it was totally worth it as I could visit the slow lounge as well as my two colleagues (offpeak visit). We ate a ton and had several beers. Was well worth it.

Isn't interest rate better as well?

I'm sure mine went down

Premier has the slow lounge facility, not sure about the gold.
