Hi guys ;)

So, I bought his RAM from Take2 last night, expect it sometime next week:
https://www.take2.co.za/electronics...notebook-memory-ddr2-800mhz-1gb--3974830.html

I bought two 1GB sticks.

Currently in my laptop, I've got two 512mb sticks and it's running at 667mhz.

I know DDR2 800 is backwards compatible, or so I believe at least :o :p

The question is though.

Is it hard to upgrade my RAM?

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L40 13G and it's my baby, so I won't feel very good if I bust it :p

I'm a technician/starting sys admin by day and I've worked on many laptops before, but I have a sense of fearlessness with other peoples belongings and not my own.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I guess I remove the battery before commencing upgrade? Any other steps to take?

Thanks.

Also got myself a Notebook Microsoft 3000 wired mouse, which is cool :p

tera ;) :D :p

Switch off laptop.
Locate RAM module cover and remove with tool.
Remove statics from your body.
Remove old modules and install new modules.
Make sure they are inserted properly as when I had my RAM upgraded in HongKong Golden Computer market, laptop won't boot after they installed new module.

I am using Microsoft ARC BTW, very nice.

I went through the same process a few months ago. I had bought 2 1GB sticks for my laptop to replace the 512MB stick it came with. The laptop wouldn't boot with the 2 new 1GB sticks. I had to have the old 512MB and only one of the 1GB sticks. Tried every combination. The 1GB sticks weren't the problem. Apparently some laptops have to have the original stick of ram it came with to boot...

It just need a bios update so it can pick up 2 gigs...I really dont think it can detect the original ram and refuse to boot up without it...

Thanks guys ;)

I've got the latest BIOS revision and according to SIW my Max memory capacity is 4GB, so I'm sure it will go well. Now just the long wait for the stuff to arrive :D

I opened the laptop yesterday to see how easy it is to upgrade.

Just flip it over, there's a big panel, untighten 5 screws and lift.

The RAM is easily upgradable. You have two latches that you push down on both sides and the RAM just pops loose.

I swopped around the two sticks yesterday just to see whether it POSTS correctly and it did, so I guess I can safely assume when my RAM arrives next week that I won't have problems.

Next thing to buy, a higher capacity SATA HDD :p
