Upgrading RAM

Upgraded my ram to generics, the chips i pulled out of my macbook was Hynix. Apple ship the standard modules, just charge more for it.

I phoned zaps they are checking if they can get.will let you know.

The guy I spoke to recommended the Corsair so I went for that.

For that reason as well as the fact that I didn't want to wait a week for the cheaper one. :)

Because there are idiots out there willing to pay for it?

If you are worried about quality (why?) and prefer a little Apple sticker on your ram I suggest you contact your local Apple dealer and pay the R1000/GB that they charge. Btw, they will sell you the exact same product made in a Chinese factory but it has the little apple sticker on.

That's just not true! More often than not the RAM in the macs I have have been Hynix :)

Does the iMac 2.8 27" use the same RAM. If so can I use 2 x 4GB SO-DIMMS with my existing 2 x 2 GB SO-DIMMS to give me 12 GB? I have 4 slots. That will be a real bonus.

Hijacking this thread for a moment, don't want to create a new thread for essentially the same topic.

I have a mid 2007 iMac 7,1. I want to upgrade to 4GB ram. I'll need 2x2GB 667MHz DDR2 (PC2-5300) SO-DIMMs.

I found 2x2GB paired Kingston HyperX for about the same price as other ram. The HyperX is CL4 (4-4-4-12) while the other ram is CL5. Will the faster timings be compatible with my Mac? I.e. is it purely a feature of the Ram, or will the system slow it down to 5-5-5-12 or something?

Here's the Ram: http://www.kingston.com/hyperx/products/khx_sodimm.asp (KHX5300S2LLK2/4G)
And Sybaritic: http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?cPath=485_408&products_id=20116

Not sure but keep in mind that you can upgrade to 6GB if you want using a 2G+4Gb modules. Google will provide more info.

Thanks. Found the info, and also confirmed that CL4 works but doesn't make a real world difference. Think i'm going to stick with getting 2x2GB.

If you want to check what ram your machine supports cehck out...

www.macsales.com. they also sell ( i have got great service from them) and they have installations vids as wel.

I've ordered a pair of 4GB 1333mhz SO-DIMMS form Zaps ( Kingston) so I will upgrade my iMac to 12GB. That should speed up things a bit when photo editing.
