Hi guys,

We have 3 computers at our home with a 4mb line(512 U/L), one right by the router and the other two about 20m away connected to the router with network cables.

Speedtest.net at the one close to the router shows decent results: D/L 3400kbps; U/L 420kbps. However, the other two show more or less the same DL but the upload hardly reaches 200kbps. Can this be expected due to the length of the cable and if so any suggestions how I can maitain the higher upload speed?

Thanks :)

lol... move the other PC's closer and drop the length of the cables? :D

lol, I don't care about the other PC, I just want the line coming up to my room/xbox to give me the upload speed the PC close to the router gets. Moving is not an option. I just mentioned the second distant PC to show that it's not a problem with the specific cable leading up to my room.

No! Otherwise it would also affect the downlaod speed.

Exactly, that's what confuses me.

Maybe a router problem?
Try to change the network cables in other ports.

Are the PC's same spec
It is highly unlikely that the cable to the room would effect the performance

100baseT ? GIG ? even 10baseT would have to die before it has an effect on the speed of your dsl

Having just checked my daughters upload speed on her computer which is 20m away she has a slightly better reading than mine i.e 430 kbps upload speed as against mine 412 kbps.If you are running decent cable I cannot guess why unless the other computers are of a different spcification.

Thanks for the replies. I'll phone telkom tommorrow(when I have 3 odd hours to spare) otherwise just get someone to come and look at the whole setup(PC's are very similar in specs). Cheers.
