Hi

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why this might happen, I often get upload speeds higher than my download speed. I have a 384k ADSL connection but I only seem to get about 19.2KB download. A typical result from a speed test is something like this:
Your download speed : 155 kbps or 19.4 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 245 kbps or 30.6 KB/sec.
:confused:

Sometimes to circumvent the problem I would switch my modem off and switch it on again a few minutes later and I would be back to a 50KB speed. But this doesn't seem to work since Friday.

I used to be on a 192k connection and then upgraded to 384. Telkom says that everything has gone through on their side! It's a complete mystery to me how they assign various speeds to connections and IP addresses - I cannot even begin to fathom where the problem might lie.

thanks
B.

My 384k line I get 512k speeds:

* Download time: 8.969 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 454.9 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 55.7 (kiloBytes/second)

But then I connected to my modem, and it reckons it's downstream speed is 512k and the upstream is 320k - so no wonder!

mmm and that website seemed to be a complete waste of time - sorry noswal - she not work for me

Try doing a factory reset on your router and re-configure it. I had the same issue with my WAG54G and that resolved the problem.

that actually helped

I did a MTU tweak and reset the modem's settings to factory default and it actually bumped me back up to my 50KB/s! Thanks for the tips - I am sure I will have to use them again - knowing my luck.

;)
