Upload Speed

Biometrics, won't you do an upload test again? We replaced some kit this afternoon that might make a difference. I tested around 5pm to your server and got 6KB/s upload average.

When you do the test, please do an ipconfig /all and tell me your IP addr. as well as your DNS servers. This will tell me how you're connected.

YAY YAY YAY, it looks like the upload problem has been fixed. Hope it's not a fluke but my uploads are now consistantly at 7 KBps.

V3G, was something found and fixed?

Now if you can do something about the recurring:
- connection failure
- DNS
- SMTP
- download throughput

So the last thing to try is v15 firmware.

is there a v15 firmware ... I didn't know that ... where can I/we get it???

v3G sent it to me. But I'm still using 14. So that wasn't the issue. I'll get around to upgrading when I actually get some time ... But now that uploads are working - do I want to risk it ;)

glad to hear your "problems" have been sorted :D

wonder what is going on with 3G at the mo' though, since friday it's been really slow, and the DNS servers stopped working (using others now).

whatever it is, hope it's resolved soon ... excellent service otherwise :D

biometrics, you must be mistaken. I would never send out 'beta' firmware.... ;)

V14.2 for Novatel was just released from testing, so this should be up on the Download page soon.

Will check on what changed to get your upload speed right. Will contact you on e-mail.

I was just wonderin, I was looking at my bill the other day and looked at the endless data connections on my invoice when I noticed that almost all of my charges are for received data only, or at least it appears that way. Do you pay for data that you send?

Yes, any data sent or received counts towards your cap. What you're seeing is a typical usage pattern, most data (for most people) is in the downwards direction. This is one of the main reasons for a asymmetrical design of the system.

Upgraded to v15 - no problem.

Still got my 7 KBps uploads, even with just 2/5 bars. So something was definately fixed. V3G, send a thanks to whoever did it. Rather late than never ...

Will do. I'm seeing the same. E-mailed a 14MB file last night and it went out at a constant 60Kb/s.

BTW, how close an exact time / date do you have when you first noticed the improvement?

Oh for f*cks sake. The problem is back! The old up and down story again. HELPPPPPP!

I managed to upload 55 MB last night at pretty much full speed.

So what have you guys changed?!

I've mailed some large emails via smtp.vodacom.co.za and are getting very stable, near 64Kb/s uploads, so I'm not seeing a problem.

Are you getting the bouncing up and down thing again?

Yes. Tried again now. Same thing. FTP btw.

I am having a serious f-ing sulk now!!!

Ho hum ...

Uploads ok again. So what went on there?!

Listen, it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. So I'm not imagining things. I triple check, especially after my little error with the smtp server while connected by vpn, cough cough.
