uploaded 1.9GB - help !!

Install a firewall, it will ask you for permission when somethings wants to make a connection to something "external". Leave it running and eventually you will find the culprit.

thanx flashfire208, you can uninstall that DC++ program I asked you to run.

nice pr0n collection BTW...

so all the anti-virus scans are finished and ... nothing , niks , nada , zilch , zippo . So still no culprit, OMG my firewall was off ... seriously why would i do that (facepalm to facedesk and back to facepalm) :( ouch

You know, it might not be you - could be someone has your account's username and password? But I'd think there'd be more downloading than uploading done if that were the case.

I agree with moggie - if you're absolutely certain it wasn't you then report it to your ISP. They'll also probably be able to tell you if any connections were made from another DSLAM. Worth a shot.

Well, to me it seems his account was hacked, anybody can do it. It seems as though the person that hacked your account was using it to get his ratio on p2p up to scratch.

And yes, if you use a router, please change your password. It's scary how many people don't and their account details are stolen.. I have this friend that hacked adsl accounts until he got caught, had to pay R800 to buy what he had used. And that was only one of the accounts he used. Hasn't been caught for using the others though..

312 kb line? never heard of it. Well lets see, with a 384 i dl at max 40kb/s i can get 3.3 gigs/day.
Assuming you have 312 synchronous line, you can easily reach 1.9 gigs in 1 day.
However, a usual 384 line has 128 upload speed (384 is download, hence ASYNCHRONOUS DSL) which equals 1.1 gigs a day which would make it impossible for you to upload that much in one day which means you must have been hacked

Hey there!

Don't know if this will help, but I had the exact same problem at my office, except I downloaded 2.5GB, and uploaded 2.5GB on one day. It was a Saturday so I knew the only culprit could be the server - I checked the audit trail thing on the TelkomUsage place, and the line ID was the same, so I also knew my account hadn't been stolen. Eventually, I installed a program called NetLimiter, on Thursday last week, which can monitor all appications, and tell you what's sending to who. And it seems the problem, for me at least, is the WINS.exe process. Which is very strange.

So I'm thinking the Wins service could be corrupted, since I don't even use it! I just use plain DNS.

Anyway, maybe this will help, and maybe someone has some advice for me.

Is the pc on a network?

Sometimes the software that monitors upload / download includes the data sent to / from another pc on the network. So if eg. someone transferred some files from that pc to another pc or vice versa then it would show up as well.

Just a thought...

This program tells me what is sent via Internet, Local Network, and Internally (127.0.0.1). I checked, and it is monitoring internet correctly. Also, the WINS.exe usage mirrored exactly the unexpected usage on my account.

Hi all , i checked my usage statistics today and found that on the 13th i uploaded 1.9 GB !! 100 fold more than usual ! i only use the line for internet surfing and some gaming . what could it be ??

Could be simple. You have a webcam? You left it on?
You have kids the sent pics via facebook?

you could quite possibly have a hacker using your internet:sick: happened to me more than once
