Since the upgrade to 384 I noticed this.

I ftpd a 7mb file today at an average of 13.46 Kb.
While I was doing this my browsing was very slow, I looked at my traffic monitor and my download speed was averaging 5-7Kb.

When I was on 192 I was able to ftp@18Kb and download@20Kb at the same time.

Has anyone else noticed this?

yeah thats y i upgraded to a 1mb line. Couldnt stand the poor upload speeds.
I can multi task my 1mb line soooo nicely now its like heaven.

hmmm..downloading torrents at 35-40kb/s and uploading at 10+ kb/s. U guys sure this happens? I havent noticed at all after the upgrade.

when upload bandwidth is saturated, then downstream bandwidth is affected

too much to read on a sunday night, grab a coffee on monday morning and dive into it.

not sure why it didnt happen with the 192 package, but over the pond here that has always been the case...when uploading like mad (80%+ capacity) then my browsing goes to poo and even my downloads slow down quite a lot. the problem is compounded by the very asymmetric nature of the cable connections here...128k up and 4-10meg down (at least, that is what my provider offers)..ouch

sorry ur wrong ;/

DSL Speed
384 Kbps Upstream,
640 Kbps Downstream

and i have 512 ;/
That's your line speed that your modem syncs at. In all likelihood Telkom would have implemented a script which limits you to approx. 80% of 512k speeds

Telkom gives you a bit extra than what you payed for to handle the overhead of using PPPoE.

I look at the speed and find the highest constant upload rate for like 1 hour or so.

Netgear Router Info :
Modem
ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 1152 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 384 kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

The Telkom website is talking lies...

Oh and btw i do upload at 384 speeds. Anywhere from a solid 38-46kb/s.
AFAIK speeds are limited at the dslam and differ from what your router reports - or are you downloading at 1152 also?

It's not much of a telkom lie if you're getting more than they say - thats called a bonus.

I have the same problem - if I upload a large file via FTP, download capability is shot.
