UPS for Gas Geyser

you only need to turn on the backup power when using it ,its not needed when idle .its for the temp sensors .
 
Well it depends
If the OP is intending to get some power backup system for the house , then having a few wh sacrifice won't be a big deal if the inverter is running already
 
you get battery systems for them that fit inside the enclosure ,but dont know much about them .
 
Something else i forgot

A normal pc ups has another drawback

ie often if it detects no load for x amount of time it switches off

So if intending ups for low load applications make sure to get one that is able to disable this feature

Often low load = no load as it may fall under the detection level

You can't run a fan on a pc ups.
 
All depends whether the fan is powered directly by AC, or via a rectifier and DC.

you can , a lot depends on the wave

ie if you have a square wave not so much
reason for that is that the item actually gets more power than it should ie area under/in (positive and negative side) the graph is more
thus the item runs, but runs hotter and reduces longevity

you can actually run it in stints with cooldown times if the need presses hard ie if you have a 12 hr outage and your modified sine wave inverter has enough juice/wave that allows for the start-up of the fridge /fan whatever

on a modified sinewave with more steps this becomes less of a problem
and you can run it without this problem

pure sinewave inverters is just so many steps that it essentially looks like smooth flow,zoom in enough and you will see the blocks/steps

Hi All,

Please can you help super newbie to this and really don't want to buy the wrong thing.
I have a small gas geyser Rinnai Infinity 20. I am looking for a ups / battery backup for this so that I can have warm water when there is loadshedding it needs to last at least 4 hours.

On the side of the geyser, I see some electrical info 240V - 50Hz 0.54 AMPS

I have no idea what to buy like a normal ups or power trolley, so any suggestions that work with this would be appreciated.

So what did you get to switch the ignitor on during loadshedding. I have a Rinnai as well.
 
So it requires 130w(0.54*240=129.6w) so for an hours runtime you would need 130wh or 65wh for 30min with losses it becomes harder to say, normally people add 20%

This rule of thumb has a problem on light load

ie if an inverter uses 50w (50wh for hour runtime) to just be on then then it skews calcs and you need to add higher buffer %

Just get something with lifepo4 battery
