UPS for Gas Geyser

Hi All,

Please can you help super newbie to this and really don't want to buy the wrong thing.
I have a small gas geyser Rinnai Infinity 20. I am looking for a ups / battery backup for this so that I can have warm water when there is loadshedding it needs to last at least 4 hours.

On the side of the geyser, I see some electrical info 240V - 50Hz 0.54 AMPS

I have no idea what to buy like a normal ups or power trolley, so any suggestions that work with this would be appreciated.

I'm sure that current draw is peak so only when its igniting and probably uses quite little during a 4hour stint.

240v X 0.54A = 129.6 Watt

4 hours X 129.6 Watt = 518.4 Watt hour.

So a 500Wh + ups will do the trick. But again I'd be really surprised if it used anything near the peak current for long periods.

240V x 0.54A = 130W

Erm you looking at PPS/trolly territory not UPS.

It would only need it for a second to light the flame, then its done its job? (if not a fan)
 
Personally I dont know.
Only gas heater I ever used did not need power at all and worked via a pilot light back in my farm days. :)
I had a forced blower geyser. It was an atlas not a rinnai but they work the same.
 
Yea gotta measure to see what it needs

As preliminary test you could open hot water tap while power is on and switch off the power observe behaviour

Then close tap

The problem with small ups is by just being on it has a standby power and consumers x amount of power

Ie 3.5A useable from the battery equates to about 45Wh and i doubt the ups uses less than 11w to just stay on

So a ups most likely wont be able to stay on 4hrs with no load even if it makes it through you will be damaging the battery from day one

So that lands you in bigger battery territory or a lithium based power backup


Unless you actually only turn the ups on when you want hot water and off when done
