Hi

Does anybody have a UPS for their DSTV and TV setup in the case of power failures ?
What setup do you have ?
Is it advisable i.e. can it cause damage to your equipment ?

Yep it will work, and its safe and wont dame equipment, it actualy will protect it
you have 2 choices, you can use a regualar computer UPS, you just need to cut a kettle cord and conect it to a normal multi plug so you can plug in your tv and dstv into it. but running time is not very good, ts more to protect from power outages and give you time to shut down safely
or you can buy one thats built for TV's ( i think thers a nioce tedelx on i saw at hifi copr for like 2K) thos can run a tv etc for a good few hours.

I have often wondered about this. Though about getting a car battery or 2 and an inverter. I know the deep cycle batteries are better, but expensive. The idea is to run the tv and decoder for 2 hours or so.

Necro alert. And its loadshedding time again.

Anything else you guys are using to power your TV's during an outage?

Got a few IntelliPower 4 (2kva) and Inverex (1 & 2kva) units a number of years ago for powering the TV/HTPC/DSTV/PC/ADSL during blackouts - have worked well over the years and no damage to the equipment. IMO very worth while.
You can make your own with a few batteries and an all-in-one inverter/charger (i.e. Inverex/Deltec), just make sure the quality of the unit/batteries is good.

You don't have anything better to do than watch tv? :)

But yes, you can. You will however need something decent, since TVs use a fair amount of power.
