Hey guys, I need advice on a UPS.

Want to run my PC for about 60-90 minutes off of it. Only a monitor/PC and speakers - nothing else. Won't really be for gaming either, just movie watching.

1) Is it difficult to install a UPS?
2) How much is this going to cost?
3) What UPS do I need?
4) How long do they last?

I don't mind spending like R1000 if it lasts me a good 2 years of load shedding.

Probably will cost quite a bit more than R1k and won't last that long if you're going to be draining it every other day. How much juice does your setup need?

What are your power requirements? You say you're going to be gaming, I expect then quite a power hungry monitor, GPU and CPU?

UPS are generally not meant to be run for extended periods. If you want one that is going to provide you with enough headroom then R1000 is not going to get you anywhere close.

Maybe look at a battery+inverter solution, there are plenty of threads on the forum dealing with this.

Still, nothing that costs R1,000 is going to do what you want unless maybe you hit a great bargain with some second hand enterprise stuff that somebody wants to get rid of.

Damn, probably quite a bit judging by my sig.

Okay, I know nothing about this part of the electricity industry. How much is this gonna cost then? Dammit this is pricey...

Like R3k? I just need it for an hour... Hmm...

I mean't not gaming, just movie watching really.

Battery required would cost about double your budget. First off determine your load energy usage.

Remember your battery shouldn't discharge more than 50% so I would budget for a system around 4k.

Why not go the generator route?

Yep I personally tested one of those setups before I started selling them.

Will be fine for your pc and monitor for 2 hours. Depends on the type of speakers and watt usage on them ,then it might be able to handle that also.

Just remember mustek has no more stock of the mecer inverters ,new stock are only coming in mid july. Just hope the price stays the same!
