Howdy all

I have a question about the Output Frequency of a UPS. Looking at spec sheets of two different UPS' (APC and Meissner Netstar), the APC is "50/60Hz" and the Meissner is "50Hz".

Can anyone explain the difference to me, or whether it's even important? (My current APC (50/60hz) is used primarily for the PC, router, monitor and a network drive).

SA grid is 50hz...US grid is 60 hz.

So either will work for you. Pick the biggest APC one you can afford...you'll pay premium for the brand but after having dealt with no-name brand UPS I'm definitely never saving on that front again...

Meissner is a decent brand from what I can tell too...but I'd still pay extra for APC.

Our grid is 50Hz so both should be good. The APC can do both 50Hz and 60hz.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciate it. Yeah, APC hasn't let me down yet, and after running into some issues with a cheaper/no-name UPS before, I've learned my lesson.

If you buy from SA retailer it will be 50Hz. You don't need to worry about it. The same model when selling in US market will produce 60Hz output.

Most electronic equipment isn't too dependent on either frequency and / or voltage as the power supplies can handle various specifications.
