Has anyone run their pc ups without load or used a clamp meter to see what it draws with no load

ie how long will the battery capacity be drained with just the inverter being on

If you have a inline ups with no load, many tend to shutdown after a few minutes. Be difficult to test.

Was going to mention this, every UPS I've used will shutdown if there is no load, hell even if the load is lower then it's expecting, hence why a lot of people are moaning about them shutting down while running modems.
I know my Mecer 5kw inverter uses about 50w without anything, as I unplugged everything once to conserve battery and the only load was it and it was 50w.

Have not tested the actual load but know from XP the 12V (single 7AH) ones only last about 2.5 hours with nothing on it.

The bigger 24V (ie 2x 7AH) can easily run for 4+ hours. I use one to keep Alarm radio alive during LS.

You can set that via software. I normally use UPS Assistant.

edit: I see support for it died in 2016 so support for the latest UPS's might be limited.

i had a ups that could disable low load shutdown, ie when you switched it on you would hold the power button for a few seconds and it gives you a beep an that feature is gone

hence why i wanted to kick myself for not making the additional fan auto instead of manual switch and popped it many years ago

yea step up/down is hard on losses, 36/18wh per hour dependant on switch off voltage ie 100% dod/50% dod

what was your shutdown voltage settings with the test run till flat ie worst case scenario?

Worse case.

Pre-inverter days I use to have a 12V (1000VA) UPS powering 5W LED bedlight. Then when we had em 4-hour LS sessions hit I found it ran out even with no load. Back then I only had a Generator and was a pain to run it at night.

Scored a 24V 2000VA from work, swapped the batteries, and worked like a charm for about 2 years.

Upgraded to inverter in 2020 thanx to da taxman.
