Hey peeps,

I have found the shaved earth pin plugs at Builders, but can't find sockets or multi adapters anywhere.
Don't even think I have the correct name for these things cause I can't get a result from Google either.

Can someone assist?

My 1200W inverter and 2 x 102Ah batteries were cooked when I can came home late last year. I put it down to a general failure of the inverter and left it at that. It has however been playing over and over in my head, and it dawned on me recently that my domestic probably plugged the vacuum cleaner into it, and the inverter protection did not kick in (or it had none).

So now I have rebuilt my battery backup and want to be safe by hooking up the UPS type multi adapter to prevent normal plugs from being used - just in case.

Anyone have a proper name and know where to find them?

Think their just called red plugs,
Need to find specific multi-adapters that support those, or convert a standard one into a red plug one,by cutting the old plug off and rewiring it with red plugs....

My Google is weak, cant find what you want. Had such a multiplug as a previous employer but don't note the brand.

Try contacting Ellies or Snapper?

I think he wants the holes/sockets ON the multiplug to just be able to accept shaved pin plugs, not the multiplugs own plug.

Correct. Found the plugs at builders which is cool. I can change the plugs for all devices that must go on UPS now, but I need the sockets now - or preferably - multi adapters.

From what I understand, black is ups and red is no earth? Blue is also supposed to have a meaning.
Each of them have the shaved portion at slightly different angles.

The plugs I found at builders are of the black variety.

Thanks for the pic. That helps me.
I am at builders now and they have both red and black dedicated. I was going to stock up on black, but it seems red is the most common and it will be easier to get sockets and adapters for the red ones.

Stock up here I go.

Red (no earth leakage protection, not "no earth") is the most common, and often used on UPSes as the output of a UPS generally does not have earth leakage protection.

You do get black & blue as well yes, but they are VERY rare. Frankly, I've only seen one or two installations in my entire life where they was used.

Any good hardware store should stock the red (dedicated) plugs, as well as sockets. ACDC, Builders, Brights (in CPT), electrical wholesalers, etc. It can possibly also just be that they don't have stock, so just ask for dedicated plugs, sockets, or multiplugs.

If you use dedicated multi plugs, make sure that you can't put a normal plug into the multiplug either. A lot of these multiplugs will have a red plug (shaved earth) at the end connecting to the socket, but would allow you to put normal (round earth) plugs into the multi plug itself. That kinda defeats the purpose entirely :)

Thanks for the info savage. Now I feel educated :)

I purchased a bunch of the red plugs at builders this AM. They also had black and blue.
I asked for multi adapters or wall sockets for the dedicated plugs, but nada unfortunately.

And yes - my multi adapters must not have the ability to take any normal plugs. As you say - it defeats the purpose.

Will call some of the suggested options on Monday.
