Hey guys, another question. I signed up for the upto 4096 kbps line but only receive speed around 190 - 260 kbps, 300 kbps. I've only had the access for a few days, it was an exchange, self install. using the Mega 200 VWR router. I have spent more time on the mobile with the telkom consultant than actually using the net. When they say 4096 they actually mean ' around there and only on South african websites.' Everytime I tried to show the consultant how slow the line was internationally, they all try to direct me to a local site where the speed is pretty impressive, but since I rarely ever visit local sites, it doesn't do much. I do understand that p2p etc are given lower priority but all the sites I've visited to test the bandwith speed, whether Scanyourpc.com, WUGNET.com, speednet, speakeasy.net, dslreports.com...etc those fast speeds are no where in site and I'm left with a 190 kbps - 260 kbps DL rate. I've also made sure to use bandwidth tests that weren't only in the US, but globally, even one in brazil, and always do the testing 2 or 3 times to make sure, just in case they try to point out that ' the server is congested there (which they did). What gives ?? Would canceling the telkom dsl line and leasing one from axxess or anyone else offering be a better, reliable and consistent option ? I'm absolutely cross  and steam is right now blowing out my ears. I've got a registry booster that keeps my system in order to ensure optimal settings. Telkom has tried everything from telling me my browser needs to be regularly cleaned to ' avoid buildup' to ' we don't promise those speeds, but it could go there' except they don't mention ' only in South africa'

Anyone with a suggestion ?

Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done about this. It's a very rare thing, even for isps overseas to promise full bandwidth, because so many things can impact your final speed. The only time you have a chance of receiving your full line speed will be locally, and on the rare occassions, internationally. But don't expect it. At the end of the day, what you get, is what you get. Broadband has always been a best effort service. To improve your international speeds, you can get an unshaped package, but its costly.

I get full speed internationaly.. but the telkom box is next to my house.. tis is a plus.. and also saix bw is fast..

o u having probs with international downloads speads..
use a download manager..that allows mutli thread which is basicly all of them now days..

that should help u out abit..
but for the last couple of days international connection be stuffed for SA...

barrack street main router problems and international links going down could b adding to your problem also...

Rofl no dont CANCEL your LINE.. dsl line from axxess and other ppl who offer will not make a difference.
becuase the dsl is still done by telkom.they just order teh line for u and pay the line rental for u. and u pay the isp 1 bill (dsl line/Account)..

Isn't there a MINIMUM that they must adhere to?

Right now, I'm not even getting 90kBit/s (Bits!), and my International IS hard limited at 1mbit/s, unless I really hammer it with multiple threaded HTTP (only) downloads. It's been like this for weeks now, and it's virtually unusable :(
