My 1.6 is about 10l/100km but the foot is heavy...

Too low tyre pressure can play a big part and also when the call was last serviced. My tyre pressure was too low and it sucked petrol and it close to service time and still sucks more fuel than when it was freshly serviced.

I get 7.8-8.1 combined depending on driving style, and 5.4 on freeway only.

Correct, it's only Urban driving, as the threat title says.
Combined it is closer to 4.8l/100km.

one will have to zero the OBC and drive around in the city for quite a while to get a good estimated average. because it's a stop-go style my dial goes over 20 and back down. I must check the OBC next time.

Search me! I've got a 323i, which is a 2.5 straight six, same as the 325i

I think the difference lies in the VANOS system.

Should be about 8.5l / 100km. You should get 600Km per tank.

friend who has a 320i auto gets roughly that much

when i fill up it says 583 but the average consumption is reading that ridiculous 11.3, maybe i shoud reset the OBC and check?

With a 318i at 8.5 i get app. 730kms on a tank. After having done 635kms i filled up, and it said i could still go another 96kms

You must drive an Opel, my old Corsa GSI 1.6 does similar mileage when driving in peak urban traffic. Fortunately I upgraded to a Honda which gives me 8l/100km in peak traffic with a 1.8l engine.
