Howzit guys,

So here is the deal. I have a billio 400G router which was working perfectly until last night. I was updating the firmware then all of a suddent power trips when the darn thing is straight halfway. Now it does not function.

Any ideas on how I can get it going again?

From what I have been reading, the CD has some recovery software, problem is I have misplaced mine. If you do have the CD could you kindly please help a brother out with an upload and post me a link.

Many thanks

Issue :/ You might have bricked your router. Can you access it at all (does it have lights flashing)

The lights are on for the lan ports plugged in, i am able to transfer between the machines that are plugged in via lan. I cannot access it however using the 10.0.0.2 address. Comes up with a timed out error. Hopping i did not brick this darn thing.

It keeps reatarting on its own too... Soo... Ya

Uhhh... I also have a Billion 400G. What firmware were you trying to flash ?

you might be able to recover it, no idea abot billion but one of the lan ports might give you serial acces or there could be a jtag header on the motherboard.

i had a router some time back (dont remember the brand) but after a failed upgrade then a firmware flash to unbrick the thing, the router's ip changed from the default 10.0.0.2 to 192.168.1.1

have you tried using 192.168.1.254 to access the router - also try changing your network settings on the pc from automatic ip address to manually assigned ip to see if you can log in using the above address.

the router restarting on its own is never good, try a reset using the button at the back, but hold it down for quite a while - 30 secs or so.

Okay - try downloading this: http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe

And once its downloaded - follow these steps:

Step 1 - Open the EXE
POjGa.jpg

Step 2 - Change Connection type to Telnet and type in routers IP (10.0.0.2 for you I think)

Step 3 - if it connects, try logging in with admin admin

If it logs in - post here and i'll guide you through restoring

I did try accessing the router with the 192.168.1.254 address but did not work.

Will try find something on the 'Solos-W ADSL-M/WG v1.00' hardware.

Many thanks

Thanks, I will try this when I get home. Will get back to you hopefully with screenshots of the screens I get. Thanks

Shout if you're stuck - I do have that CD somewhere and will look for it on the weekend if you don't come right.

Woah this is almost a sad story. Very happy I have my adsl router and pcs on UPS, pretty much exactly for reasons like this.

Sorry for the delayed reply guys, been a bit caught up and the router problem has not really added to making life easy for me.

Unfortunately it seems that the router is dead for real. I managed to get a second hand router and when I connect the billion to the router and machines out of the billion it takes the IP address range from the other router.

Which unfortunately to me proves that it is a gone. I sent an email to the billion support guys... But them being themselves could not really help me. When I say help, all the guy could say was he does not understand the problem I must take it to a telkom store and pay big money which is more than the cost of replacing the router... which he openly admitted.

So I think I have a pretty heavy home made switch on my hands. It will now be used to extend the wired range in my house one day. For now it is hitting the boxes for pack away. Unless someone can get me an idea to bring it back to life.

Oh and the link http://www.devilliers.org.za/TelkomBillion400G.iso is dead. Was actually looking forward to giving it a try.
