Good evening everyone,

Tonight I decided to update the firmware on my Billion 5100 Router that was supplied by Telkom. I'm sure it allowed for 2 minutes to do the upload and reset. However, my power failed and now when I try using the modem it just won't light up the ADSL sync light. I've tried it with another modem and it is working. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Sounds bad. The last thing you want to have is a power failure while flashing the EPROM. I have lost a motherboard like this years ago!

I thought Telkom only supplies Marconi routers. You downloaded the right firmware for your router?

Try and reflash the router.

Had the same problem ... there is a company in PTA that supplies the Billion routers ... go to them directly and if you hand the modem in ... they will rewrite your eprom for free

Thanks a lot. It's just my luck *sigh*. The modem lights are on and everything, just cannot ping it and it won't sync with the ADSL line. Any idea where they are located/contact numbers BlobNow?

How exactly could I reflash it as it won't allow me to access the configuration page? :/

I did the same, and spent many frustrating hours before I discovered that instead of going to 10.0.0.2 (IIRC) after updating the firmware you need to go to 192.168.1.254 to access the configuration pages...

i had the same issue. Remember that Telkom 5100 FW is not the same as Billion FW. They have other default setting n'stuff. Nothing major: IP address, NTP servers, Branding, etc. But both types will work.

The correct firmware you need is actually sitting on billions AU site.

Oz firmware is not a good idea. Telkom uses a different set of DSLAMs than Oz uses. Sometimes you'll get lucky and the Oz FW will have your DSLAM's DMT coding on there.

I'm not sure if there has been a new release of 5100 code.

My whole prob is that the ADSL sync light is not lighting up now and my router is totally unreachable. I ran ipconfig and even tried pinging the router but there was no response. I tried both 10.0.0.2 and 192.168.1.254 :/ .

Photonman lol

I'm not following you, dude! If you haven't tried re-setting your router, do that first. Then do the 192.168.1.254 configuration.

Let us know what happens.

(BTW you re-set the router by poking a paperclip or something else that's thin enough into the tiny hole marked "reset" next to the power jack for at least 6 seconds...)

Thanks guys. That's the first thing I did. Seems I blew my modem good and solid. Oh well, any suggestions for one in the R800 bracket?
