Urgently need a PC. Your opinion pse

Hi guys, we're trying to arrange a work from home set up and boss suggests an HP i5 laptop with SSD.

I'm not too keen on squinting at a 15" screen but dont necessarily want to be trapped in the study while I work. Also gaming would be an advantage ;) COD etc.

We'd like to get going ASAP so urgent advice please.

Most important question: budget..?
 
I just straight up would not buy a pre-built desktop, and the one you linked it out of stock.

As for a laptop, a 17" is so large you might as well get a desktop imo. 15" is the sweet spot, and an i5 is good enough for most kinds of work.

P.S. seems the HP one I listed above is sold out everywhere :confused:

Problem is, if it's not sorted by tomorrow he might have second thoughts about the work from home thing. Hence pre-built.

Can always upgrade as time goes by?

You can... although depending on what they put in the thing in the first place, you may have to throw parts of it away. How many RAM slots? Although 16GB will be enough for the next year or 2.
Space in the case for GPU upgrades?
The PSU is damn tiny.
Which motherboard is in that thing? It might be a PoS A320 chipset one.

I expect that by the end of next week they might just rather let you take the company PC home just to get you out of the office.
 
Seeing as that desktop has sold out. Does anyone ever game on a laptop? And do you attach a decent sized monitor?

Looking into it now, tks. Price is fine and extra ram is available.
 
I have respect for the new range premium HP laptops. My heart and mind still belong to Dell though.
I manage an office with prebuilt Dell's and it is way easier to manage than custom setups.
 
Boss just messaged to say he's checking out an HP laptop which looks great to me. If he pulls the trigger I'll get it tomorrow - not a PC and only 8 gb ram :confused: but I'll still be happy.

Boss is playing a big part because I've been booked off sick so I'll be the guinea pig to see if WFH is an option for all staff.

Won't be doing much in the way of gaming with it, but well spec'd otherwise and there is room for ram upgrade..
