The Syrian conflict started in the same way, as did ISIL.

it would appear the americans actually gave no training at all.

the two main arab groups involved in the conflict from the outset, one sunni, the other shiite, received actual training in the islamic republic of pakistan and the islamic republic of iran respectively.
of course the default knee-jerk mantra of adherents to the same faith of the above republics is "well, america trained bin laden" which in fact is totally false but fits the prescribed narrative.

many nations, including the united states, provided funding - but again, the prescribed narrative requires blaming the great satan . . . . . . .or the jews, for everything possible

so nobody cleaned up the mess, and as a direct result these organisations were created.

so if you think the USA has very little responsibility in creating these organisations, then we still disagree on the fundamental point

Deserted them how? What were they suppose to do?

And how do you come to the conclusion that this resulted in the civil war?

After the puppet government fell the political parties agreed to a power sharing agreement, except for Gulbuddin Hekmatyar who wanted to rule on his own, and thus started the civil war.

so, we have al qaeda as an eventual by product of the soviet / afghan war


Jamayat-E-Islami (meaning "islamic society") group attempted to overthrow current govt
Democratic Republic of Afghanistan then attempted to modernize it's islamic society, this was met with resistance by the mujahideen.
DRA govt requested soviet assistance.
War breaks out
Foreign ministers from 34 Islamic nations adopted a resolution which condemned the Soviet intervention.
Other nations, including usa provide the rebel groups with assistance

responsibility:
1) religion - the driving force behind the war: Jamayat-E-Islami in trying to overthrow the govt.
2) soviets - providing assistance to DRA
3) the other nations involved, for stupidly and unwittingly providing assistance to rebel groups who's quest was to keep afghanistan in the dark ages
