The issue is, there was nobody on the other side who was not a white suprematist/neo-Nazi. That was the entire makeup of the protest. They were marching with tiki lamps shouting Nazi slogans like ‘blood and soil’ and ‘Jews will not replace us.’

I'd have to look into it more closely, as it was a while back. Point is, I don't think Trump should be nailed for this quite as much as so many other of his blatant dog whistles and reluctance to criticise certain groups while happily sending police in to **** up protesters and inflame tensions further. Also, I am just being clear that I should have poked about a bit further before commenting, as I had not done my due diligence. There are plenty of other far more egregious utterances that we can condemn.

I don't think he actually dog whistles at all, mostly he doesn't even know there's something linked to what he's saying. Like where he commended Qanon when asked about it, just because they said he was a great guy.

Thank you. Trump seems to have gone a bit haywire in the intervening period. I take no issue with what he said there, and after being pretty clear, the journalist 'somehow' got the wrong end of the stick. I should have looked up the video before commenting. :)
Thats just it, you shouldn't have to, you read the news report, that should have been enough, thats what they are supposed to do, report the news, this happened, then, there, why, trump said xyz, done... instead, they report garbage and spin for clicks, and then cry 'he's attacking the press' when he calls them out on it and calls them fake news, and act surprised when more and more no longer bother with them

News comes in all flavours. Some sources are better than others, obviously. I think the main problem in the modern age is simply the incredible volume of information we are fed daily, and a lot of it exists to pander to people for engagement, rather than to disseminate impartial information.

Of course I agree that news should be neutral (with regard to the intent and accuracy of what is reported, I don't mean it must be opinion free), but it just is not, and it is our job to find correct information in the sea of swill.

Who said anything about him being a fine person?

A certain Donald J Trump... whose comments you are defending by equivocating with your 'bUt MiLiTiA' shyte.

If you're really arguing there *were* fine people on both sides in good faith, own that video.

Mmmm wouldn't say anything in that Salon article is accurate apart from

"This turns the dog whistle notion on its head: It's the outgroup that's picking up on the hidden message in Trump's rhetoric, while the ostensible target group takes his words literally."

But this just means the outgroup is reading too much into something. Occam's razor

Greg it's past your bed time it seems.
James wasn't in the militia now was he? And it's only Shyte because it disproves your idea.

Even if there were just a handful of people there to protest the removal of the statue then the statement is correct.
However Trump was most like uninformed about the actual amount of people affiliated with the different group. He doesn't have the advantage of hindsight w.r.t facts like you have now.
