Best thing the US does is to have separate elections for the executive and for the legislature. The EC/popular vote argument pales into comparison if you consider that difference.

Since Zuma was deeply unpopular in public, he wouldn't have lasted 8 years as president, 4 years and he would have been thrown out. Heck, I think even if it were a popular vote, Zuma and his government would have been tossed, as well as the Ramamessiah.

Absolute nonsense. When's the last time an independent won the election in the US. The EC and the fptp system of assigning delegates makes it impossible for any outsider to win anything.

Zuma would have gotten >50% after the first 4 years. And Ramaphosa would have gotten more.

I wasn't talking about an independent.

And the EC/fptp system, whilst flawed in creating two party systems, makes it very difficult for a one party system to flourish.

I just don't think she has the "Madiba Magic" factor. I think she comes across as a brilliant cabinet minister or bureaucrat but not as an inspirational leader. She is better in a practical position rather than a figurehead.
