Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and Dr Oz call your office please.

A malaria drug widely touted by President Donald Trump for treating the new coronavirus showed no benefit in a large analysis of its use in U.S. veterans hospitals. There were more deaths among those given hydroxychloroquine versus standard care, researchers reported.

The nationwide study was not a rigorous experiment. But with 368 patients, it’s the largest look so far of hydroxychloroquine with or without the antibiotic azithromycin for COVID-19, which has killed more than 171,000 people as of Tuesday.

The study was posted on an online site for researchers and has been submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine, but has not been reviewed by other scientists. Grants from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Virginia paid for the work.

Researchers analyzed medical records of 368 male veterans hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infection at Veterans Health Administration medical centers who died or were discharged by April 11.

About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.

Hydroxychloroquine made no difference in the need for a breathing machine, either.

Researchers did not track side effects, but noted hints that hydroxychloroquine might have damaged other organs. The drug has long been known to have potentially serious side effects, including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.

Earlier this month, scientists in Brazil stopped part of a hydroxychloroquine study after heart rhythm problems developed in one-quarter of people given the higher of two doses being tested.

Many doctors have been leery of the drug.

At the University of Wisconsin, Madison, “I think we’re all rather underwhelmed” at what’s been seen among the few patients there who’ve tried it, said Dr. Nasia Safdar, medical director of infection control and prevention.

Patients asked about it soon after Trump started promoting its use, “but now I think that people have realized we don’t know if it works or not” and needs more study, said Safdar, who had no role in the VA analysis.

The NIH and others have more rigorous tests underway.

Full credits for fearmongering.

Partial credits for not reading what the article says:

Firstly:

Not going to make the headlines if you show that 11% of people were actually infected in a crowded resturant. Much better just to ignore the denominator. Gotta pump those numbers boyo.

Then there is this:

So immediately there, you have a problem. That is less than what is required when I have to queue in the bread lines.

So the evidence states that tables that are far enough apart are fairly safe. Which is what they conclude:

Good that this type of work is being done though. Restaurants that have decent distancing between tables and outside seating should be safe with this.

Also a 5 story restaurant with no windows?
Firstly: SIES!

Secondly: it cannot have the same risk profile as a restaurant like this with plenty of open air and sunlight.

Missing the point. Even if 1 extra person gets sick, they go out and spread it further making more people sick.

Less than 100 people started the virus off in SA. How many people are sick now, even with the "tyrannical" lockdown?

So what would be a good infection rate then, seeing as that it cannot realistically be zero?

Notice which race it bothers the most:

Remember 'woke' white people absolutely love speaking on behalf of non-whites...

So basically virtue-signalling is for rich liberal whites...

Notice how much race factors into your argument, rather than thinking that they also have a problem that the man is almost 80.

Maybe you're right, but 'woke' white people aren't the only ones obsessed with race.

Less than 1, I believe.

Have a look at what they did to our canteen, to keep it open, as people are still getting sick on site. 20200421_120827.jpg

And the fact that you call him a failed business man when he fairly rich because of his businesses is laughable. Yeah, he had a silver spoon in his mouth, but money doesn't last very long if you don't put it to work. Especially if you have tacky taste and no class.

Hundreds of millions of dollars can last life times, what are you talking about?

My reasons are exactly the same, I detest poverty. Hence why I only support policies that result in the decrease in poverty. Which is why I only support free market capitalism, as that has the most evidence for decreasing poverty.

The opposite of free market capitalism increases poverty.

Leftists don't give a toss about poverty. All that matters to them is inequality. They would rather have the poor be poorer and have the gap between the rich and poor be smaller.

It is why the ANC/SACP expressly reject things like IMF bailouts. They would rather South Africans starve than dare have those evil liberal policies of economic freedom.

You're the living embodiment of this meme. :p

Libs go on far more about race than age so I'm not going to accept that. Race is definitely one of the vectors of identity politics.

Because none of those people are putting their lives in direct danger by taking care of the people crowding their workplaces with the sickness. I can't quite believe you're this dense but it seems like you really are.

I don't think he is, necessarily. He just retreats into snark, pettiness and strawmen when his arguments run out of steam.

Yo! Conservatives. Help a brother out here...

When Dan Patrick says, "there are more important things than living" what are they, exactly?

Also, why aren't those thing first, before "Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" in this document?

They've turned into the death cult they falsely claimed Obamacare was going to create. All they know is projection.

Why can this not be online? Come now, this is America!

Why? Because the Republican governor (now Senator) Rick Scott deliberately made it terrible.

“It’s a sh-- sandwich, and it was designed that way by Scott,” said one DeSantis advisor. “It wasn’t about saving money. It was about making it harder for people to get benefits or keep benefits so that the unemployment numbers were low to give the governor something to brag about.”
