After a Republican Senate and House had voted to replace it with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Careful now SoldierMan, your bias is showing and you might want to put it away and zip up.

Yes but ultimately Clinton signed it. There are plenty of things that cross a Presidents desk, does he sign them all or think how it will affect the country? You sign your name to something, you take responsibility for it, you're the one in charge.

The US has long ago given up making medication and it is mainly made in China now. America has become a finance economy, while China a manufacturing one. Which one do you think, has the better future... Trump inherited it, the whole kit and caboodle. Not commenting on the actions, rather the situation.

Has anyone told the folk at Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer and Abbvie and Abbot and Bristol-Myers Squibb?

A vote counts too.

What's funny @TysonRoux ? That America is screwed if they ever go to war as they will have no medications to offer a hyper-medicated population?
TDS has reached all time highs. Seen some serious insanity from people here to a point for first time I now use ignore list, we've seen the true quality of individuals over last few days. People celebrating the market dumping as they've wanted since trump took office... but they forget they're celebrating their own hard times, all the people dying round them, and if the virus continues for a few months, still to come is all the job loses, houses lost etc etc, everyone will lose a family member or more to this, here in good old SA we're proper farked. They think US health care is unprepared and can't handle it cos 'but mah trump', news flash, no country in the world has a health care system to handle it, and they aint seen nothing yet when roll on effects hit us, US will look godly and unscathed by comparison to most. But when it hits them, and their family members are dying, and they lose their jobs, we'll see the celebration continuing in their eyes... careful what you wish for and all that ;)

How much of their manufacturing is also done in China?

A lot, but maximising your margins by using 21st century serfs in Chinese sweatshops to manufacture your product is capitalism in action and American as apple pie.

Man-u-fac-tu-ring.

Can't remember the exact source of where I got the info, but a quick Google search reveals exactly what I said.
Here are two that came up when I searched, Google will reveal plenty more:

U.S. officials worried about Chinese control of American drug supply

"Basically we've outsourced our entire industry to China," retired Brig. Gen. John Adams told NBC News. "That is a strategic vulnerability."

Antibiotics, which turn life-threatening infections into minor nuisances, are considered the single biggest advance in modern medicine.

But imagine if the supply of antibiotics to the United States was suddenly cut off.

American national security officials are worrying about that scenario as they come to grips with this little understood fact: The vast majority of key ingredients for drugs that many Americans rely on are manufactured abroad, mostly in China.

As the U.S. defense establishment grows increasingly concerned about China's potentially hostile ambitions, the pharmaceutical supply chain is receiving new scrutiny.

"If China shut the door on exports of medicines and their key ingredients and raw material, U.S. hospitals and military hospitals and clinics would cease to function within months, if not days," said Rosemary Gibson, author of a book on the subject, "China Rx."

Or, Gibson told NBC News, China could potentially "weaponize our medicines. They can sell us medicines without any medicine in them. They can sell medicines that have lethal contaminants in it."

China is Quietly Becoming the World’s Pharmacy — and There Are Big Risks

But hey, it's easier to just laugh it off like TysonRoux, when in fact he doesn't have the first clue about what he is laughing about. Yeah I know, idiotic.

@Pegasus

more for peggie boy

Stocks cratered at the open, with the major averages dropping more than 5% and leading to a 15 minute halt in trading after the circuit-breaker threshold was triggered.

According to the New York Stock Exchange, a market trading halt occurs at “three circuit breaker thresholds” on the S&P 500 due to large declines and volatility. The exchange classifies this at three levels based on the preceding session’s close in the S&P 500.

Before trading was halted, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2,250 points, or 9.7%. The S&P 500 fell 8%, while the Nasdaq Composite was down 6%. -

I don't directly blame Trump for the stock market falls currently being experienced. He is partly responsible, like any president would be.

However, live by the sword, die by the sword. Trump was always happy to take full credit for stock market rises. He should then be man enough to take credit for the falls.

He’s just moved a WH Coronavirus briefing from 10:30 to 3:30... Going to try bump the market before it closes again.

12% down... and counting.

It is a bloodbath.

Nah, come on man, this is a worldwide phenomena. If it was just in America you might have a case to make, but as is unless Trump secretly created and released Corona, the level of market devastation can't be laid at Trump's feet. Don't get me wrong though, the market will react to how he handles the situation (testing kits, etc.) as well but the magnitude of this collapse is not Trump's fault.

He could have definitely handled it and prepared better, just a week or two ago, he was trying to tell everyone it was just like the flu and that cases will be zero soon.
