US seeks laser to shoot down satellites

I can bet China does, though.
 
Its also quite likely Mandela has one up there to watch the nudist beaches for some hot action :D
 
I wonder how the US would react if people started shooting down their satellites? :D

All these countermeasures against terrorism.

How will they know though when a terrie is strutting his stuff down a New York street, and in that huge travellers backpack is in fact not clothes, but a miniature nuke. US cars have huge boots, lots can fit in there.

Logic dictates they should pay more attention to what's happening *inside* the country. There is a great deal of people within the US who would do it harm on command from one the leaders from overseas.

Let's hope it never happens.
 
the funding could be better used to do research on Bush's defective genome.... (where did it go wrong....)
 
I don't think this move was to combat terrorism. I might be wrong, but putting a sattelite into space requires huge resources, and is only useful for spying. It's also not easy to get one up into space, there are only a few companies that do it.

What's a terrorist going to do with a bird's eye view of a country? I don't see much benefit in it.

On the other hand, a country has a great deal more to gain by spying on the states, including troop movements, total militiary might, number of planes available, what the state of nuclear silos are in (are they gettting ready to launch, or not) etc. etc.
