US still controls the Internet

The Internet is still under the control of the United States, participants at a governance forum said, despite a move by America to loosen its grip over the private corporation that administers the net.

And that's wrong because........?

It should stay under US control.

Do you want the SA govt to mess with it? Do you want Libya or China to mess with it?

The US has been fair thus far. Let them keep it. I vote for the USA keeping the status quo.

Regardless of them being fair it's still the evil empire.........

But he said some countries, particularly countries not on friendly terms with the United States such as Iraq under President Saddam Hussein, or Syria and Sudan, "had difficulties in registering their domain names."

Cry me a river

China is already hacking US networks, China controls US networks which "control the internet" ... AKA, China owns it.

Internet is far to big to be "owned", else everyone would have US law for internet use. US companies try to do this, but it never really works.

Guys, I know many of you will claim that the US is controlled by special interests or aliens etc. And of course special interests groups in the states do hold undue influence in terms of privilege esp in the economic sphere.

But the US is still one of the free est nations (for its own civilians) in the world. I know of very few other countries with higher levels of freedom of speech.

The countries complaining about lack of UN control, only want control so that they can dictate what is or what isn't acceptable in terms of content and structure on the internet. Are you going to be happy with an internet where criticism of Allah or god/s or unicorns is not allowed.
