Usage looks a little high

Hi,

First off let me say a big howdy to y'all I am new to this forum. Duh like you could tell from my post count .

I have just had an ADSL384 package installed, my ISP is Blackdot and I am using a DG834 modem/router which I have secured and limited access to via MAC address filter.

I was checking out my usage stats and I am a bit concerned at how much my usage is, at this rate I won't make it half way through the month . see below

Does this look normal? I use the net mostly for surfing and online gaming. My better half wswas downloading some mp3's but no more than 30 or so which would account for about 100MB but this w/e usage was well over 600MB

Online gaming might b your culprit, specifically FPS games, you can chow 50 to 80meg/hour at times.

Dude your problem is on 17-18 December - you pulled way over half your entire usage in two days.

You should find out what you did on that day, and stop doing it

If you were gaming, did you pull down new maps? New CS maps can sometimes be quite big.

I don't play FPS games only strategy. I don't remember the usage being this high when I was on ISDN. I would typically use about 200MB on a an entire w/e. Thanks for the tips though. I am going to try one session just gaming and see if this is the root of the problem.

That's pretty normal - aside from the 17th and 18th

Online FPS don't pull down that much either, unless there's updates.
Steam for instance, updated itself and then CS:S and that must've been around 70meg - very irritating, because it doesn't tell you how large the updates are.

Averaging 100mb a day is what to aim for and you seem very much on track there - 17 days, 1.3gig - no problems, you'll make it through the month easily if you stick to the same patterns.

Well I would have thought stratgety games would be more of a cap-buster than a FPS because firstly because

a) you can't just exit in a middle of a RTS game, it's rude unlike in a FPS where you can quit after a round in CS, BF1942

b)RTS's are more time-consuming than FPS's

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it . I agree about the strategy games being a little more time consuming than FPS games as there is a certain etiquette involved. But on average I play 1 to 2 hours a time. With the exception of the w/e.

I am going to try just a session of signing on and killing all my chat apps and etc to see what usage comes from it.

Why not get a real-time BW manager to check your usage. e.g. BWmeter will give you stats by the hour....
