It sucks, doesn't keep the coffee warm, but it's actually quite useful in that it constantly displays the temp on the "plate", which is room temp when the cup-warmer is not switched on.
I got mine for free from a medical-rep though, so maybe one that has been bought might work better!
I have one packed away somewhere. Novelty factor is waaay up there. Actual usefulness depends. Mine keeps my coffee at around 40C - or so it says. Truth be told, I didn't ever have to drink a cold cup of coffee while using it...
The USB bus supplies 500mA at 5Vdc (maybe even up to a whole amp on a desktop PC). Using P=VxA that's a whopping 2.5W of heating ..err.. 'power' - you really think that's going to amount to much?
