Can anyone out there advise me where I can buy a USB flash drive with a write protect switch. I have looked online and cannot find anyone selling them locally in South Africa.

My old one is only 128mb and I need to replace it before it fails on me.

Need it to install software at clients without having to worry that it gets infected by malware.

Buy any flash drive. Format it to NTFS, only give yourself write permissions.

Yes it can, one value in the registry.
Maybe look at encrypted drives as well,

If you think that is expensive, look at the other brand!

I went through Canal Walk, and cat find you a cheapie.

Maybe go the NTFS route, and amend permissions.

I've seen Kingston flash drives that require you to enter a password to save files on them. Would that work?

That's what I am doing now but it is time consuming to scan after every use as they contain the software I need daily (Pastel Accounting & Payroll as well as SARS Easyfile and other utilities)

I have a couple of flashdisks, and format it after every use,

You would be surprised how many times I get to a client and the DVD drive has not been used for months. Will not even open, let alone read a DVD. I would then have to carry around a portable DVD writer "just in case"

Wouldn't it be easier to use a DVD to install the files?

Yikes, I see the dilemma.
