Hi Guys,

I have a problem with the lack of IO on my macbook pro.

I tried connecting a normal USB powered USB Hub to my macbook pro usb port. Connected to the hub was a wireless mouse and keyboard and an ethernet adaptor.

Problem is the wireless mouse and keyboard aren't recognised on the mac. Do you think that a powered AC usb hub would solve this problem, I don't want to go out and buy such a product if it won't solve the issue.

Cheers!

Unplug Ethernet adaptor and see whether other devices are recognised. Ethernet adapter is the only device possibly taking excess power (requiring powered hub - I don't know your adapter).

Are they recognised if you connect them directly to the MBP?

The receiver/transmitter is almost certainly not getting enough power. I highly recommend a powered hub. Before you buy, check how much power per port the hub supplies (should be 1A these days, but there are still lots going around that does only 500mA). Also look at the total power output, i.e. if you buy a 5 port hub, you want it to be able to supply 5A.

As with many things - you get what you pay for...
