USB hub not working

My friends 15" Macbook Pro's usb hub doesnt work at all. Tried to plug in a flash disk and an external hd, nothing works.

Any ideas?

Was hoping theres a quick fix or is a general problem…already tried resetting SMC and PRAM as found on google, but didn't help either. We don't have any apple centres in PE so hoping she doesn't have to send it away
