ok so i want to copy a large amount of data what would be quicker, 500gb worth of stuff..

setting up my pc and copying across a 100mb/s network
or plugging in a external hd and copying across usb???

how long should either take???

THanks

so if i get a gigabit switch as my pc has gigabit network card and do it that way that should be quicker right??? to a internal hd on my pc.

A gigabit switch will help to give you more room to work with, as it will enable you to copy more than 10MB a second. However, you won't get near gigabit speeds of course.

The one thing I've found about USB hard drives is that with large amounts of data transferred, they are slow. Also, if the hard drive is a laptop sized drive, things are even slower.

If you can, copy it via eSATA. It's the fastest method I've come across so far.

+1

Or otherwise plug it into your pc and copy the data directly

lol should've just done the easiest way for you, would've been done long ago instead of posting

Why don't you plug the drive directly into the pc, this way you will get really fast speed and won't take a day to copy.
