Hi guys I need help!

I recently built a new system with a P8P67-M Motherboard, Core i5 2500K CPU, 4GB RAM and I got a Radeon HD6870.

My system will randomly just freeze. At first it was just the USB keyboard and mouse that froze, I would then unplug them, wait a while and then plug them in other ports. (The only USB devices plugged in are the mouse and keyboard)

Now my whole PC will just freeze at random intervals.

There was nothing of note in the Events Viewer. It only stated tht the last system shutdown was unexpected.

I've tested my theory (about it being the USB ports causing the freezes) by running my PC through the night without the mouse and keyboard plugged in and it would be fine. When I didnt unplug my mouse and keyboard the system would freeze 2-3hours after I left the PC (judging by the time on the system clock).

All I can do after it is frozen is hard reset the PC.

I've formatted my PC last night and left it through the night with the mouse and keyboard plugged in, and it was frozen this morning. All I had installed was my Graphics drivers, all the drivers on the CD that came with the mobo and Firefox 4. Nothing else except obviously the OS.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the keyboard and mouse. I've used them with my prior maching for months. I've tested another mouse aswell and it is doing the same. The mouse I originally used is now used on another machine without any problems.

This is driving me NUTS!

Things I already tried:
-Formatting
-I ran Memtest for 10passes with no errors (before i knew it was the USBs) I ran Memtest because I saw the DRAM Led burning red ove time after a freeze that I never noticed
-I updated the BIOS (before i formatted) but I experienced more frequent freezes so I reverted to the one the Mobo came with

PS: Before writing this post I download all the newest drivers from ASUS' site and installed them including the newest BIOS. I hope that solves the issue, but in case it doesn't I hope that someone can give me some advice on what to try next, please :)
There is no specific USB 2 drivers on the site, only USB 3 though... Don't know if there is specific USB2 drivers somewhere?

Please help!

I dont see any edit button... so i'm replying quick. I forgot to mention I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Check that nothing is shorting in the I/O panel. If you have USB ports on your case, make sure those are unplugged from the motherboard too.

Does it make any sort of difference if you only use the USB3.0 ports?

Do you have a Revision B3 motherboard?

What is the voltage of the RAM that you're using? I hope for your part that it is 1.5V !

I've had issues with my P7H55D-M Evo motherboard where my PC would just turn off by itself when I left it for a couple of minutes/hours.
After I updated the BIOS the problem went completely away. Strangely the Asus website didn't mention anything that the BIOS update fixed something as serious as that, unless it was solved by "Enhance the compatibility with certain memory."

Thanks for your replies guys! :)

@Rudimental: How would I go about checking that? I'm not sure if the case's USB are plugged inin to the mobo, I will make sure that they are not.
I did plug them in to the USB 3 ports when it first started freezing, it made no difference. :(

@Pada: Yes it is the B3 revision. I am not sure what the voltage is, how do I check that? (I have Speccy, and all it tells me is the RAM's size :(

I'm very clued up about hardware so I'm not sure how to single out a specific component or area :( Gosh, so much that can go wrong, can't believe PC's evolved this far :P

EDIT: Lol now I see the edit button, guess I got logged out? ;S

Thanks buyeye, I've installed CPU-Z and the RAM shows 1.5V under SPD - whatever that it is, but I noticed "Corsair", and that the brand of my RAM so I assume it's RAM related :P

Yeah, CPU-Z should give you the RAM brand + model numbers, as well as the current voltage that they're running at and not what the RAM is designed for. <-- See the SPD tab for this info.

Update:
You'll need to post the Part Number...

Could you perhaps post a screenshot of the SPD tab? Or submit your results and post a link to it, because I'm also interested in your memory timings.

Here is a report of my RAM from CPU-Z.

Can you please have a look and tell me if the timing and frequency are in order? If you don't mind :)

JEDEC #2 8.0-8-8-22-30 @ 592 MHz
JEDEC #3 9.0-9-9-24-34 @ 666 MHz

EDIT: Lol, Maybe I read your thoughts, I didn't even see your update when I posted the above. Is that what you are looking for? Let me know if you need anything else :)

Everything seems in order.

Your RAM is running at 1333MHz at 1.5V and your memory is rated for that too.

Thanks Pada.

So I left my PC on through the night again with everything plugged in and it was frozen again :(

There is a red light shining bright at the area near the USB ports that I haven't noticed before.

Anyone know what that light is?

What is 'JEDEC'? And why do the #1, #2 and #3 differ so much?

JEDEC #1 6.0-6-6-16-23 @ 444 MHz
JEDEC #2 8.0-8-8-22-30 @ 592 MHz
JEDEC #3 9.0-9-9-24-34 @ 666 MHz
