Amazon's Benson approved cables.

I got all of mine from AliExpress, baseus is the brand. Very impressed. You can buy it locally (I use the braided) bit it's R300 here vs $2 from AliExpress.

I bought a decent one for about R150 from Computer Mania, just walked into the shop and asked them what they had. It charges at the max rate that my laptop's fast charging port can put out, and supports data transfer as well.

Anker or on takealot? Aukey if you want something cheaper. Aukey braided cables are well made in my experience.

I would avoid using a $2 cable on a R16000 smart phone.

I'm not saying that it would damage your phone but it's seems more probable that these would not follow USB type c spec.

There are plenty of articles showing how USB type c cables can damage your device.

Fast charging is bad for your phone battery. Slower = better quality charge.

Aware of that, but these do fit the spec.

If guys are spending hundreds on a USB C cable they are fools IMO.

I've had USB C phones since the Nexus 6P (or was it the 6) and have never had a problem.

Charging a battery faster than a slower rate, even a lithium one, does degrade it over time:

I'm not sure of the exact numbers now, but that's the general idea.

Also, charging your battery to 100% each time reduces its usable lifespan:

Based on my own experience of my previous two phones, this seems to check out. My previous one, I charged it overnight using the wall-charger every night. After about 3 years, the battery (while not useless) was noticeably weaker. My current one, I've been charging it using a standard USB-port (i.e. slowly, unless I'm in a hurry) and no higher than 70% unless I know I've got a long busy day. After 2 years, it's still nearly as good as when I bought it.

Fast charge is 1-2h hour though..... overnight is rather overkill there.

When it comes to large capacity phones fast charge becomes a necessity, you either fast charge or you have the choice of keeping the phone plugged in a full work day for a complete charge or overnight charging.

The problem with most of the cables available is they either don't fast charge on all phones or they don't support data transfer whether they fast charge or not..... and then there are the cables that actually damage the phone.

There's no real difference between fast-charging your phone to 100% and immediately unplugging it, and leaving it plugged in overnight. The main "damage" done to the battery electrodes is in the charging process. Once it reaches 100%, the internal circuitry will stop charging the battery and just run off wall power, so you don't draw current from the battery while you're plugged in. What I meant was, my previous phone I almost always charged as fast as it could, from the wall. Granted it was before USB-C so it wasn't the current fastest charging standard, but it was still pretty quick.

What is true though, is that there are some shoddy cables out there.

For me, slow charging isn't an issue - I generally only charge my phone at work, since I'm at a desk most of the day. I use AccuBattery to give me an alert when it's reached a certain point, then I unplug it. By when I get to work the next day I'm normally down to my last 10% or so of battery, but it only takes 2 hours or so to get back up to 65%. I give myself a bit more of a boost in the 30 minutes or so before I go home, and it works quite well.
