USB3 question

Yeah that's socket 1156 still. Sandy Bridge. Pretty hard to get hold of new ones nowadays. Although I don't know how you got a Sandy Bridge motherboard without USB 3.0... I bought mine the week that Sandy Bridge came out in SA and it has 2 USB 3.0 ports, plus headers for another four....

Get a MB that's compatible with your current setup.
It's what I did.

So a Gigabyte GA55-USB3?

How much headache will swapping that out cause? Like windows reinstalls...etc...

Or, alternatively, as you are thinking I am bull****ting, go ahead, get the controller and see for yourself :)

Na, LGA1156 was before Sandy Bridge. Even more difficult to find now.

You're probably better off with the USB 3.0 PCI card. I'm not having much luck even finding a socket 1156 mobo that has native USB 3.0 support.

Gigabyte GA55-USB3 ;) But where to get one? Probably unpossible. Anyone a rectron reseller? They're most likely I guess

If you do go for it, USB 3.0 flash sticks are not created equal when it comes to giving you the speed - read reviews carefully to check.

I have a couple of them and this stick is the only one that gives me USB 3.0 rated speeds even though the others are officially USB 3 as well.

These Verbatim sticks are barely faster than USB 2.0

I was all up in this usb3 business.
Upgrade my MB and got myself 4 usb 3 ports; stopped using the usb3 hardrive because I don't even bother to store things anymore.

Value in USB3 - 0.

So because you don't backup/store your stuff on an external the value of USB 3 is umm 0? Ok then lol

It's more a case of the NAND storage being able to perform I/O requests at that bandwidth rate, which is rare. So technically, they are USB 3.0 sticks, with cheap NAND. But yes, important to check these things out before committing to them.

Bought a 4 port USB3 Pci-e card from ebay last year for under a R100. Works well
