Use DSL's dial-up account? (Telkom ISP)

The ADSL account info can also be used to log in via dial-up, is it possible to use this to dial in 'freely' in parallel with the ADSL login (logged in at the same time) as much as one likes? (E.g. if I want to let a friend use the dial-up login with their modem?)

Also does the bandwidth you use when dialled up contribute to the cap?

You can use a modem and the adsl at the same time it uses different frequency bands. It is probably a good idea to use a micro filter on the line you plan to use the modem on though. Dial up does not count towards your cap.

AFAIK usage on dial up does count towards your cap and also no longer works after you have been capped. However this might have changed with the recent changes that allow you to still log on after you have been capped.

iirc - While it doenst count towards your cap (you are still paying dial up fees after all) it does cease to operate once you're hard capped.

While I agree it should not count towards your cap when I was forced to use it when my adsl was down the usage did appear on my saix logs.

... sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear enough, I meant use the dial-up on a DIFFERENT (normal) line altogether, i.e. to effectively have a "free" ISP dial-in account that I could e.g. let a friend use, or, say, use personally when I'm travelling but still have the home network connected via the ADSL. (I tested this earlier today and it does seem to work, not sure if it's in line with usage policies though - I would guess probably not if it's for someone else to use.)

I see Telkom's website says "Cannot access the Internet over a dialup connection when capped" :/ that's cr-ppy in general, although in my case I plan to stay under the cap, the idea isn't to try use the account 'while capped'.

Hmm ... my ADSL was down for a week in November; during that time I used the dialup account and the usage does not seem to have appeared on my saix logs. Why the difference?
